I started to play with the random map generator and after some crashes I finally could make a base map to enhance it. Still is necessary a lot of work to make it presentable, but the random map editor allow you to make a good distribution of the objectives, specially in big maps. Here you have a basic map made by the random map generator, with some editing in the map xml files and draggin some units and buildings. The map is 23x23 and could be used in MK, for example. I post here to encourage the mappers to use this interesting tool.

I am not sure if this is a step backwards, from detailed custom maps with clever designs to the vanilla map niveau from 2003...

Surprized you managed to randomize a 23x23 map...
You know, you can edit the small graphical 'blocks' that are used when randomizing. Takes a lot of work, but this way it becomes less typical vanilla style.

What I like in the random generator map is the possibility to make a good distribution of the different villages, citties, etc. When you make maps from the scratch you never have a good idea of the scale and distance between the objectives. Now, after two hours of work in this map, it is almost ready to receive the units.

I am not sure if this is a step backwards, from detailed custom maps with clever designs to the vanilla map niveau from 2003... Is just a matter to change the buildings, rivers and add more details, specialy simple objects and terrain objects. Also I will add different strongpoints and buildings and flora to help to cover the units. And, of course, I wont keep the original units and squads. Is more a question to save work and time in making a "base map". Usually I use ready maps (multiplayer, etc.), but is hard to find a map which fit in the concept I want. I believe it can be a good tool for those who like big maps.

I prefer original maps. Most Vanilla maps have the same style which is pretty boring after a while, even when editing it a lot. This map you made looks pretty cool though. Some tutorial would be nice. Maybe i gonna try some random maps too THIS, is so true! Btw: in your campaign, yes please, vanilla style. No offense, but your mapping is so weird sometimes

And, yes, I know : BUT: 1) I swear in the game it dont looks so strange. 2) In the campaign there are just 2 maps made from the scratch.

According to Boltz's site this mod also requires Olmsted's MOD and Road to Victory 1.3b. Is this correct ?

I make my maps in GZM, this mod have a random generator system very similar to Olmested, but I presume you can make big random maps in vanilla too. Anyway, is just a matter of convert it from one mod to vanilla, you will loose part of the buildings and objects, but this can be a good thing once will be easier the adaptation. Also Mission Barbarossa have a random generator system which can help you to make big maps. www.mediafire.com/download/e2jyxx0x6u8a9sw/randomtutorials.zipHere is the tutorial I used. Just unzip the files and you will have 2 rar files with a tutorial in html. The first teach how to make simple random maps, second teach how to make big random maps. Is good to read both. And, about your maps, dont be so perfectionist and dont worry too much about historical accuracy. On these days our only active historical specialist is Tedi88, Stanenberg makes totally imaginative maps, Kaoz likes alternative scenarios and I, after making a map, start to search some scenarios barelly similar to my idea. The only important thing in my opinion is to keep in mind some ideas like: PZIV in 1942, tigers in 1943-45, BT-7s not after 1942 and so on.
