Allow me to double post here...
I tried the Manhunter campaign today and it remembered me why I don't play BK anymore. MK/IF and the entire engine seems just bugged as hell. It says that the campaign is for MK 1.4 but you don't get an opel blitz but an ambulance, so the map seems to be for IF...
Air support is totally broke in IF. Its impossible to shot down any of the Russian fighters or bombers while my recon planes and ground attack planes get destroyed even by aa-guns with a couple of shots. In MK 1.4 this isn't the case. Why was the amazing air balance changed? I have no idea. Not to tell about some texture pack problems but these are caused by myself...its really hard to fix anything on IF. Its just one big mess - really frustrating
greetings, Stanenberg I think you are talkin about the "Untill the bitter end", a convertion made by Finlander. Some of the Finladers convertions are really bugged, others are better. I'm playing the campaign called "The Southern Front: 1942-43" and is to the original MK+RT.

Let me tell you a little about this litlle jewelry: Stalingrad by Ecimir ( ecan ) and tedi88 . I used to think the battle of Stalingrad was too much explored, but the first map in this chapter shows that still is possible to make very fun and challenging missions about stalingard. To resume the concept: all the work must be done with infantry and light guns, so the use of the terrain, buildings and debris is essential to cover your advance, the battles to capture the strategical squares are extremly tough: is necessay to advance from different points and allways encompass the enemy. I spent my entire sunday playing this map and the gameplay never got boring or painful, I almost cant remember when was the last time I have this experience. The map design is not really beautifull, but the units and objects placement is very well executed. It's surprising how this chapter passed almost passed unnoticed in the Forums, and how ecan is still a rookie in map making, but I can see the hand of tedi88 here. My congratulations, guys, I hope the other maps will be as good as the first one.

When I'm not hooked by a chapter or campaign I start to play several different missions, without compromisse, and after some time I allways end up playing a mission or campaign made by Manhunter. His maps used to be very repetitive and I think he actually made it through the random map generator, but I play his maps because he made a lot of works about the early eastern-front scenarios, my favourite, also sometimes I enjoy to have thousand of units so I can make stupid mistake and bad planned attacks and still is not necessary to reload.
Now I'm playing his big campaign "Wer zuerst schiesst, stirbt als zweiter". A compilation of maps made, originally, to different mods, converted to CCM 2. I made an adaptation of the mod to GZM and I'm enjoying the experience. Every map is a little Prokhorovka but who cares?

After a lot of time playing GZM and, sometimes, MK or another "ranging" mod, I finally returned to vanilla. It took some time to adjust myself to the old features, but now I'm used to it again and I'm spending a good time with some old chapters. The interesting thing in playing vanilla is the easiness to build your "own" mod. Is possible to substitute any old unit for some good looking panzer made by Major Pain or from a good addon as TDA or Stalingrad. So, I started with the very old LaPlata chapter "The Green Devils", interesting work but nothing very special and I could finished in no more than 3 or 4 hours of gameplay. After this, I tried the map "88 to the eastern front" a good vanilla map from the times of the BKP and finally I took the Operation Wotan by Leon, using an old save I had of the 3rd or 4th mission from 2013. Interestant fact: I tried for the first time this chapter in 2006 -2007 and I found it a little impossible and most of time a boring work.
Anyway, this time I decided to play it making some important modifications, changing PZIVG to PZIVH Stukas to Me-110, using some infantry units from TDA and tatypooh terrain modifications to spring session maps. And I had a lot of fun with these maps, some of then are really cool and is possible to have a good experience if you dont mind to reload several times (the 4th and 7th maps are very hard and I need to try different tatics). One interesting fact about this chapter is that Leon used a lot of old maps, mainly from Operation North. The outcome is far from brilliant and, in some cases, he didn't change the trenches for the right side. But the first (and probably the best) map was made by Mart from the old Portal, he didn't receive the credits but I know because I read this in a copy of the old forum I have in my HD. In conclusion, I probably would rate this chapter: 8, 0.
Now I'm playing Panzer Division Lemmy in my remasterized copy of heimatfront. Some very chellenging little map.

3 to 4 hours to play the'Green Devils' campaign. Wow!!!! It takes me about 3 hours to finish a single map.
This make me think about how we rate maps in terms of difficulty. Of course the difficulty of a map depends on the experience and skill of the player. So maybe the criterion should be the time in which a player can finish a map without saving. (unless it is because you do not have the time to finish the map in one session)

Sounds like a good idea, but the time you need to finish maps is also determined by playstyle, Mapsize and amount of units.

I thought perhaps I wasn't very accurate in my time counting, but I just checked the statics and yes, I spent exactly 04:01 playing the Green Devils chapter, not the 9th Panzer included with this add on. Operation Wotan took me 29:02.
Interesting idea to compare the mission difficulties by the time you take to win or the number of reloads. Some time ago I didnt have patience to play a map if I needed to reload more than 2-3 times. This was my problem with the "German School", and also with most maps made by Leon. Now, when I dont have so many maps to play as before, I'm starting to enjoy this kind of maps. Maybe some day I'll be able to appreciate those crazy maps made by Devil.

I resumed playing, from a save file of 2014, the chapter "Kursk Battles" made by fritzlang . I'm in the 3rd mission and I can guarantee, is a really interesting and challenging mission. FritzLang knew how to exploit the best features of Mission Kursk.
