First of all I would like to thank Aleks for creating this section I suggested him to create.
Then I would like to explain why I opened this topic and which are its aims. We're all waiting for Nival to explain whether BK3 will be moddable or not, but one thing is for sure, there will always be the possibility of creating skins based on the existing ones as skins don't work as mods, but as add-ons which replace graphics files (those who have played World of Tanks, for example, will know that you can have your own skins even if your enemies will only see theirs, moreover, it worked that way in BK1: you could play against a player who had different skins and that didn't affect to the gameplay or caused any crashes).
We've got plenty of talented skinners in our community who always delight us with their creations. Nevertheless, the 3D engine and the images we've already seen seem to show that the skins will have a higher resolution and will be closer to a First Person Shooter skins rather than to those for the Enigma engine or those seen in Sudden Strike. You can see an example taken from a model of the Men of War game community: it seems quite complex as there isn't a single skin, but at least three per unit (plus the destruction skin, the ones for other seasons, etc).
Which are the aims of this post? Help out those who want to learn skinning tricks in order to repaint models for BK3 in the future, learn what are the purple and grey overlays used for (as I guess there will be similar files in the future BK3, it's something common within the 3D engines)...
Have you ever worked on that kind of files or on that kind of skins? Have you got any information about it? Tutorials, videotutorials, guides, books, magic drinks that teach how it is done? Share it with the rest of the community!
I hope you'll find this topic useful. As soon as we've got more information about which files are going to be used for the 3D models (and we know the game is moddable) I'll open a similar topic. Meanwhile, this is what we've got.
