Even after a single player map bzm & lua file were loaded into maps folder, the game editor does not allow it to be tested. Both "Run Blitzkrieg" icons, are grayed out.

Both "Run Blitzkrieg" icons, are grayed out. You have two run blitzkrieg icons? In the MapEditor? I have only one and it is never grayed out, even when no map is present in the map folder or loaded into the editor.
A few questions to understand you better:
- Your bzm is in blitzkrieg/run/data/maps, right? This is different for Steam BK version. Are you using Steam version?
- I understand you are able to load the map in the MapEditor, correct?
- Are you using a mod? If so, you need to have the mod selected in the game before you can run a (mod) map from within the MapEditor.
- You are talking about the run blitzkrieg icon on the far right in the toolbar of the editor, correct?

Hi kaoz, dogofwar is using a Steam version. The maps are indeed in the run/data/maps folder. As I unerstood he can load the map in the map editor but he can not launch the map from the editor. The map we are talking about is BK Vanila, no mod. You are right about the icon, also tool, run BK does not work. Where should you put the maps when running a Steam version ? I think this is the cause of the problem.

- The single player map bzm is in blitzkrieg/run/data/maps in my old BK installation which requires a disk to play, but is in Program Files (x86)/steam/steamapps/common/Blitzkrieg Anthology/Blitzkrieg/data/maps in my STEAM installation version. - I am able to load the map in the MapEditor. - Before I reinstalled the STEAM version, I was not able to run the map using either the "run BK" icon on far right in toolbar, or alternately using tools "run BK". In both instances the icon was grayed out. - After I reinstalled the STEAM version, both "run BK" icons are no longer grayed out, but when I hit them, I get an extended message on any map I try to run, that the map is missing in Blitzkrieg Map Editor maps folder, or it's name contains whitespace characters. It then ask me if I want to start Blitzkrieg without loading the map. This despite the fact that maps ARE in maps folder where they have always been, and always used to run. - I did not reinstall the older version of BK, but was wondering if I should just delete it from hard drive altogether. Don't think I really need both. Maybe the problem lies in having both versions installed. - I do not use any mods.

Quintaxel,
Did you get my email?

kaoz,
Quintaxel says I started the original map editor in the old BK installation that required a disk to play. But I then load a map in the new STEAM map editor, but that map is stored under the folder <Maps> of the old BK installation of Blitzkrieg. When I go to run the map from the STEAM map editor then I get the message that the map is not in the map folder.
He said I should ask you how to get the game to recognize the maps in the new STEAM map folder.

So the question is "Where do you place maps in a BK Steam version ?"

So the question is "Where do you place maps in a BK Steam version ?" Well when I installed the new BK Steam version, I had to copy and paste all my maps from the old BK installation version <maps> folder that required the disk to play, into the new BK STEAM version <maps> folder. Nevertheless, game refuses to recognize them there, in order to run them in map editor, and so I get the message come up as I emailed you. Odd thing is, it does recognize them there when playing multiplayer games. So question is more, how do I get new BK STEAM version game map editor to recognize maps that were originally from old BK installation <maps> folder, which have been copied into new BK STEAM version <maps> folder.

Good question. I hate to disappoint you, but I have never seen the Steam version so far, so I'm not sure where they should be placed. But important it is.
What you could try, is to create a new map in the (steam) mapeditor, save it and try to run that map from the editor. Then check the path where it is saving by default. I'm guessing that might bring a solution... if not, anyone else here using steam version who knows...?
Worst case scenario is to run from the game itself... can you see your map there? and can you load it?
Maybe also try using search engine on this site and search for 'steam' or 'steam folder tree'. There might be a topic from the past that deals with this question...

I've also never had a version that requires the disk (cd-rom right? not the hard-drive). I try to remember whether there is a patch that fixes this... but I don't see any in my backups. Your previous, old BK install was a version 1.2, right? Is your steam version a BH-RT?
I'm also not entirely sure whether you can have multiple installations next to the steam version. But it's possible with the disk versions. In the past, I have had three different partitions on one hard-drive and I could easily install Vanilla + BH-RT versions on each partition. You might have to install it on the root drive like: C:\Blitzkrieg\Run\... or D:\BK or E:\bh-rt and so on. I'm not 100% sure if this is a must, but I always did and never used the standard c:\Program Files\Naval Interactive\BK...

SJ... you must know the correct folder tree then, no? Have you ever had the icon+tool grayed out? Sorry, but I have no idea what mapEditor version comes with steam and whether there's difference. I'm curious to know if it works with any other new map.

You can run as many non-Steam versions of BK as you want on one single drive? The Anthology version installs BK and BH-RT in two separate installation folders, so there is no issue here. However when the Map Editor is used in one installation then the registry remembers the last location of the map and Lua file that was opened.
So if you open the map editor of the BH-RT and open a map in the folder ../BH-RT/run/data/Maps/ then this path will be stored in the registry. If you then open a map in the map editor of another installation eg. ../Blitzkrieg/run/mapeditor.exe the map editor will still point at the maps folder of the BH-RT installation.
So you always must make sure that you use the appropriate maps folder, so the folder ../data/maps/ relative to the run folder of the map editor you are using. I do not know if the registry also keeps other information about the installation but if so this information is not relevant. This is why it's possible to run BK from a USB drive.
I can imagine that the STEAM version keep more information in the registry of windows. This would be quite logic. So this may be the reason why the icon to launch a map from the map editor is greyed out. The map editor also points to the game.exe of the BK installation. Changing the name of the game.exe file does not affect the game itself but the map editor will no longer 'see' the game .exe file. As a result the icon to launch a map from the map editor will be greyed out.
I think the best option would be to uninstall both the Steam version and the disc version of BK, clean the registry, and reinstall the Steam version only.

When you install the Anthology version then the path of the game.exe is stored in the registry. This will also be the case when you install the Steam version. dogofwar I would suggest to do the following: Instead of launching the mapeditor via the shortcut browse to the run folder of the BK installation where you keep your maps. Run the mapeditor.exe (double click the mapeditor.exe file) Load the. Make sure you are loading the map from the ../data/maps/ folder, sub-folders of the BK-installation from which you are running the mapeditor.exe Check if the icon for launching the game is still greyed out. Paths in BK are relative so this should work. If it works you could copy the the whole BK Anthology folder to another location on you C: drive or other drive of you choice. Then uninstall the Anthology version. This will remove the registry entries of this installation but the installation will still run. You will have to run the mapeditor.exe and game.exe from the run folder. You could also create shortcuts to these files. Squire James What is the 'Large Address Aware patch' ?
