Well, it could depend on the computer you are running the map on. A powerful computer could make the map running smothly. True! My specs are; Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.40 GHz 2.00 GB RAM Still, I think I had made some errors in that map with too many objects where not needed, especially in backyards. Besides, I've already started on the new maps. For the time being I'm labelling the project as "WarTimes"; Work in progress as you all understand, started it an hour ago. And as noted earlier I'm not adding any military units - apart from the usual guards here and there and some units inside or close to military installations, pretty much as with my previous map! But I'll leave all the rest to whoever may feel a desire to script the maps... One question though as far as heights concerns; What's the maximum height "preferred" in game for everything to work smoothly? I'm asking because I have some ideas on how to place military headquarters and similar...

As to heights... are you wanting to know for aircraft flying over or just the relief aspect?
CorpBob made a map several years ago based on Iwo Jima. The top of the volcano was set pretty high and aircraft could not fly over it... also the player had a hard time seeing the top and Japanese infantry. Without zoom, it was challenging to position your view where you wanted it. That was part of the maps charm of course. It was pretty tall... I don't remember what the values were, and I did look at it.
If you place buildings on a very high ground, it will skew the effect somewhat.
JeffCanada could answer this... he was likely worked with heights more than any other mapper...

Thank you MP! I'm not creating anything like a volcano, I was merely considering much lower heights for some installments... Oh, and btw, we all have our own personal game preferences and I have to admit that I've always played this game as an allie - and in some circumstances as a russian, but I have no idea why I can't bring myself to play as a german... I have never experienced a war myself, my parents were born long after World War II ended, but for some reason - or reasons - I feel uncomfortable dressing myself in the german warfare theater... Odd really! So I've never played a german campaign... And no offense to any of you german members out there... With this said I only want to inform you that when making these maps I do it with germans as the enemy player...

Well, I kind of have a better idea for this new version, and as I mentioned there are some unwanted obstacles in there such as bridges over roads and the sort...
But if you want the map I can send it to you!

This is the kind of heights I'm talking about, just about 2.04 - but I may go up as high as 5.00 for some stuff...

Zero: I Enjoyed the screenshots of the map you made. You seem to understand the art of blending objects with different styles into a piece of eye candy. Looking forward to see more of your work. Just one remark about the screenshot above. Looks great but the door mats.......maybe too much detail here.

Well, I don't think that nazis would allow to use swastika as doormat BTW the use of swastika could bring some problem to German users since it's prohibited by law with the exceptions stated by the same law. Entertainement is not included.

Actually, I have updated the structure a bit further. I agree about the "door mats", but I think it looks a bit better now with more details added... My idea with this one is for a local headquarter, (political administration), with the military base located elsewhere in the town. The backyard, ideal for some artillery), is accessible from the side entrances, but I hope that whoever scripts this map makes it a difficult task to reach... As for the swastika usage, I'm aware of the restrictions but I think it can be solved with two versions, the first one as showcased and the second one with all these prohibited objects/symbols removed. One question though; Am I correct in thinking that I only need to set the player ID, (e.g. 0, 1 or 2), when placing units, (people and vehicles)? It doesn't matter when it comes to buildings and objects, right?

yes, you must just select what player from window menu 0, 1 or 2 (usually no more for single player)
for units:
0 human player 1 Ai player 2 neutral player (civilian)
for buildings and objectes i use player 0 as owner, like editor, which set player 0 as default (for fences, trees in terrain fields, ...)
i wanted tell you zero to don't trash nothing, never trash expecially if we talking about a cool work for which i think you waste lot of your time, it can be usefull maybe another time. if you want give it to me i could use that for some european urban battle.

Wow, sir, wow, that's really beautiful! Bringing the mapping art to another level (at least, visually)

Thank you, that clears things up! I did a test and placed a sniper close to the german officers standing on the courtyard, and then loaded the map in game, only to immediately hear some shots... Turns out the sniper wasted them both... And don't worry about the map. I'll keep it! It may - as you point out - come in handy sooner or later... And thanks Kevin! Above is an update. Had to re-construct the area a bit and move the road to follow the building in place... Looks a bit "clean" at the moment, but I haven't polished all surfaces with dirt and grass and whatnot yet... ;p It's time consuming altogether, I remember that now from the last time, but the fun makes it all worth while... Oh, and I removed the door mats...

Yet some more progress... On a related note, has anyone a solution for tram tracks on bridges?

use rail bridge (the railway of the bridge is slim so it should be good for tram), or broke river in two part with a terrain piece in the middle, then cover it with urban objects.
i've finished my internet bundle so my pc can't load your new pics ...

Zero: Just a detail. Judging from the flags is seems that the Germans have total control over this town. Maybe they did not yet get to removing the image of comrade Stalin on the building in the last screenshot. Now I which I could get into your map and have a beer somewhere near the river. Under that green and white umbrella looks like a nice spot. Looking forward to the next screenshots. Enjoy the mapping!
