After playing BK online since it came out, I got a new net service last year and since then I can play matches that others host, but I can not host games. I enabled BK to get through the Windows firewall, and did my best to let it through the modem firewall, and I suspect that the issue is at the modem. I searched and found that BK uses ports 8889 and 9089, so I enabled those- yet when I check it still says port closed. My knowledge about this area is basically nill, so any help or advice to get me hosting BK again will be greatly appreciated.
Modem is Actiontec C1000A

Thanks for the input Nephilim, and I am happy to report that I managed to host my first game in a year. I am not 100% sure what I did, but it is something along the lines of what you suggested (I think). The thing that worked was to create an "Application Forwarding Rule" in the modem for the BK .exe , which is "game", and enable all the port addresses from 8889 to 9089. When I tried just one or the other port it did not work, and would not allow me to make another rule for the other port #.

Well, after it working all day yesterday, I tried again this morning and it is back to how it was. When I check ports 8889 and 9089 they are both closed, no matter what I try. My blood starts to boil quickly when I deal with this crap. Why is this happening?

Here you go Jagg... These are the 11 Blitzkrieg ports required to be open in order to properly host. HOWEVER! Setup/configuration may vary from router to router... Good games! -iLeeT_PeeP

So, is that your PC IP on the right? Or your net IP? Yesterday I was able to make BK work with only ports 8889 through 9089 open. I am completely baffled now.

So, is that your PC IP on the right? Or your net IP? Yesterday I was able to make BK work with only ports 8889 through 9089 open. I am completely baffled now. Officialy 11 ports are required to be open... Strange how u got it working with only 2. The number on the right will vary from PC to PC. It is the assigned IP given to your PC/Laptop by your router. For all of you who do not know... Your router will assign every attached device to it a Router IP. Its a model somewhat like this. INTERNET --FEEDS TO-- MODEM --FEEDS TO-- ROUTER --FEEDS TO-- ALL ATTACHED DEVICES
To simplify things... Basically all a router does is "route" the "internet" to multiple devices in the home while a modem recieves the internets signal. This technology became especially handy/necessary when housholds began housing multiple PC's/devices that required connectivity to the internet. A router was the perfect solution. It is also handy to know that some modems have routers built into them and that both wired and wireless routers exist. I hope this clears some stuff up and helps some of you... Good games! -iLeeT_PeeP

My modem has a wireless and wired router built into it. My PC is connected via the rj46 cable. I tried about 10 things yesterday, and I am not certain which thing actually made it work, but I suspect the rule/exception must have had the net IP# , as this is the only thing that changes from day to day. The router device IPs always stay the same. A big problem is that you can not see the criteria in the created rules, so I had to start over, and I do not know exactly what thing made it work yesterday. Here is a look at the settings screen. I just made this new rule that includes all ports from 80 to 29901. Have not tried this yet. Am I correct in putting my PC IP in this? Or does this need to be my net IP?? Confused.... Update: This latest attempt did nothing- ports are all still closed.

What is this setting? I think I understand what it means but this has always been disabled. Should I enable dynamic routing? Here is the settings options. I am a bit leery about blindly trying these settings.

Hi Jagged, did you have tried in the select protocol menu, to put both TCP and UDP ?

Thanks for the input Scyoof. Yes, I have tried TCP only and tcp+udp. Yesterday I had enabled only TCP when I managed to get it working. I have tried everything that I did yesterday, but nothing is working. Just recently I managed to get port 8889 to open, but 9089 will not open no matter what I do today. I suspect that the list of 11 ports Peep listed includes some associated with the Gamespy client, which I do not use. Yesterday I was able to host games by enabling only ports 8889-9089. Today- NOTHING. I am stumped.
P.S: I have no idea why my little screen clips are getting blown up so big.

Well, I got it to work again. I remembered talking to someone about this a while back and searched and found this thread where someone was having a similar issue. He listed the ports you need from the game read me text in a post. I entered each one of those individually as a port forwarding rule and it worked! I am still baffled as to why it functioned yesterday, and then did not today.

Not to appear cocky or rude.... but
Computers are the leading cause of premature Gray hair and baldness.
It used to be raising kids... but that was a cakewalk compared to this stuff...
Good luck JS... I'm watching you suffer over there but there is not a damn thing i can do about it...

Did your modem/router assign dinamically the LAN address to your pc? Suppose that you have LAN addresses ranging from 192.168.1.0 to 192.168.1.128 Maybe that your modem/router applies rules that you set just for the address you were using in that moment. This could explain why sometime it works and sometime it doesn't, expecially if you try another session after switching off and then on your PC. Try to assign a static LAN address to your PC and then set up rules. Hope it helps.

A little update: I just tried again this morning and everything is working still. @ Folgore: Thanks for the input. My router/modem assigns permanent IP #s to the LAN devices (PC,tablet-etc). It does apply a new IP for internet each time it is turned on though. The port forwarding rules are applied to the fixed LAN IP, so I can not figure out why I got it working and then the next day it stopped. @ Nephilim: Thanks for the help. I did look at the DMZ settings, but I did not monkey with it. I was concerned that I was going to screw the entire thing up, so I blindly changed settings with caution... In the end, entering the individual rules for each port was what worked. For future reference, the following is a shot of the port forwarding rules in my Actiontec C1000A that work with BK Multiplayer: In the above pic you can see the correct TCP/UPD option for each port, *except for 8889 and 9089. I initially entered them as TCP, and they are actually supposed to be UDP, so I replaced the initial rules for those ports and when I re-entered them I screwed up again and selected TCP or UDP in the settings, which does work. @ Peep: Thanks for all your help the last couple of days. BK lists 10 ports that get used during Gamespy BK Multiplayer. I suspect that the 11th one you showed (3783) is associated with the Gamespy client software , which I do not use. BK itself is said to use only ports 8889 and 9089, so if in the future someone is trying to setup for BK IP play those are the two that need to be enabled. @ MP: Some computer stuff I cotton to right away, and when dealing with other things my underwear starts to bind and I itch all over and start sweating. Before you know it I am out in the shop looking for a BFH to smash my PC.... Edit to add: I wanted to add the link to Portforward.com. This tool proved to work perfectly when testing ports. I was using yougetsignal.com and it gave both flase positives and false negatives, in other words it is completely useless. Thank You again to everybody for the help. I am off to the battlefield, gotta get a couple games in this morning while the Euros are on!

LOL... I completely understand... When I build models there are times I just have to walk away...
I've been known to put my fist through a perfectly good monitor... I have thrown the mouse across the room... I have broken a keyboard across my knee... but it never solved my problem.
The BFH does seem to make things better somehow... but for the life of me... I just don't understand why...
I hope you get all of this worked out... but it is great drama...
