Attention: Member mortbertjh has written a patch that makes manually changing the DNS unnecessary to use Openspy!!!

The following tutorial should no longer be necessary, but I will leave it here for reference in case there is ever a need for it
With the shutdown of the Gamespy servers looming at the end of the month there has been a scramble to find something that will work. IP hosting does work well for BK, which would require that players only have a meeting place to gather and exchange IP #s to set up a game. However, some of the chat sites being proposed are not very good for this, as they are simply chats and you can not leave a message for any length of time, such as "Hosting game @ 7 pm Friday night, meet me here". My suggestion for a central meeting place is to use this forum and chat to set up IP games. This is really the worst case scenario, and there are some other options to remedy the loss of Gamespy. It is possible that Steam or GameRanger might pick up BK, but that remains to be seen. Something that was brought to my attention a couple days ago that has the potential to fix the whole thing is called OpenSpy.net . This is basically a direct copy of the Gamespy server system and from what I can gather most or all games that used Gamespy will work . What it does is it redirects the IP query sent from the game to their new server, which spoofs Gamespy, fooling the game into thinking that it is actually hooked to Gamespy. You even use the same Gamespy option from the game menu, and the chat and hosting areas are identical to those we BK Multiplayers have been used to for a decade now. I managed to change my DNS#s and get logged into the OpenSpy.net server today. I did the same to an old laptop I have here, and I was able to successfully start a multiplayer game today with my two computers. Soon I will test with another player to confirm that this does indeed work, but my test did function perfectly. I am borrowing the following pics I found on a site explaining how to change your DNS to a local one. In our case the DNS#s will be the ones provided by OpenSpy, and I will give those #s in the following tutorial. It is a lot easier than I thought, but , there may be an even easier fix if the call location for the Gamespy IP can be located within the game.
Here is the step by step of how to change your DNS #s to redirect Blitzkrieg to the Openspy servers.
In the Windows Control Panel, under "Network and Internet", select "View network status and tasks":
Click "Change adapter settings":
Right-click your Internet connection's icon and select "Properties":
Select the "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" item, and click the "Properties" button:
Select "Use the following DNS server addresses", and enter the IP address's of the Openspy DNS server (*) as the Preferred and Alternate DNS servers. Most PCs are set to obtain DNS servers automatically, BUT, if yours is set to a specific IP, then you should copy these #s to somewhere secure so that you can replace them if you so desire in the future. I found that all of my web activity was normal after I switched to their DNS, but this may not be the case for everyone. For now, you must switch back to your normal DNS to log into the still functioning Gamespy server, but at the end of the month that will no longer be an issue.
The Preferred # you enter is 99.198.122.113
The Alternate # is 208.67.222.222
You can copy and paste these numbers into the boxes, but check to make sure it did it correctly.
You Finally click the "OK" button in this and the previous dialogs to save your changes.
That is it!! Now all you do is fire up BK as you normally do and select the Gamespy option from the Multiplayer menu and Shazaaam, you are in the new BK Openspy server! Everything is still the same. it even still says "Gamespy", even though it is not.
"We're already moving!"
Enjoy!
