Thanks for your support in getting the word about Openspy out to the Blitzkrieg Multiplayer community, Mogwaii. Unfortunately, I have been having internet issues this week. Yesterday my ISP said that they had found the problem and that it would be fixed, but as of right now my upload speed bounces between zero and dial up speed, so no Blitzkrieg for me right now. I have been trying to maintain a presence on Openspy in the chat though. I saw that you were there earlier Mogwaii. I am actually working, but I check in to the Openspy chat once or twice an hour. I have sent a few French speaking players over to Les Clan Des Officiers in the past week, thank you for keeping players up to date in French. The hardest group to reach thus far (other than the completely insane) are the Russian speakers, but I know that several Russian speaking players have been on Openspy, so hopefully there is a Russian Blitzkrieg forum somewhere that is spreading the word.

Update: On the eve of the shutdown of the Blitzkrieg Multiplayer server on Gamepsy I am still running into players who not only have not heard of Openspy, they are not even aware that Gamespy is going away forever at some time in the next day. I managed to get a few more players to get the patch and try it out today, hopefully enough players have gotten the word that there will be a community on the BLitzkrieg Openspy server come Sunday. When Gamespy does go down, there will be a lot of searches, and the top search results for Blitzkrieg Gamespy and similar terms leads right here, so that is good.

Update: Blitzkrieg on Gamespy server is still going. There was a boot of all players a few hours ago, but everyone could still re-enter. A boot like this is normal on Gamespy about once a day as they reset the server or such, and this also occurs on Openspy, of course. I have not seen any precise time for the shutdown to occur, so it could be at any time. I have managed to get the word out to a few more people. I have had a couple guys actually argue with me about whether Gamespy is shutting down, when ithis information is plastered all over every news site there is. This, assuming of course, that these are not actually anti-Openspy lunatic fringe types out playing their game of trying to convince all the BK multiplayers that this beautiful lifeboat called Openspy does not exist, and if it does it is not needed. I guess they will not believe it until they try to log in and see "Can not connect to selected server". Hopefully at that point these players do not give up on BK when they have that blank gray screen instread of the Gamespy Blitzkrieg game lobby. If they search anything related to Blitzkreig Multiplayer on Gamespy shutting down or even Blitzkrieg Gamespy the #1 hit is this site. "Get in the lifeboat, Please!! Blitzkrieg on Gamespy really is going down!!" For those just trying Openspy, be aware of this: After hosting a game, you must go back to BK menu and re-enter Openspy. There is a bug where the player state is not being reset after a match, which makes it so you can not chat or host a game. This has been a bug on Gamepsy forever, but not so often. This issue can likely be fixed, but until then just return to game menu and re-enter Openspy after each match. If you are looking for the Blitzkrieg Openspy patch , click the link below this in my signature. Make sure Blitzkrieg is closed, and paste that file in your Blitzkrieg/run folder and then double click the patch. A blue screen pops up. Enter "1" +Enter for Openspy server for Blitzkrieg. Enter "2"+Enter to use the Gamespy server for BK until it is gone. If you have a shortcut to your BK install, just right+click on it and select "open fle location" from the menu. This is your Blitzkrieg/run folder. That is where the patch goes. Good luck to those poor souls who don't even know that the S.S. Blitzkrieg Multiplayer is about to slip beneath the waves. Please spread the word to every player you can today. We are going to lose a big chunk of the Blitzkrieg Multiplayer crowd today, so every single player we can get on this lifeboat is important. Привет всем.
Я нашел баг. Запустил два экземпляра игры, зашел под разными никами в чат, и игра зависла. -- Greetings to all.
I found a bug. Start two instances of the game, came under different nicknames in the chat, and the game freezes.
PS When will release?

If you are trying to log in from one machine with two games running... this is not a bug.
The server does not support a single machine or network server to login with more than one instance of the game. Each machine has a unique ID along with their Internet Service IP. Using two nicknames on a machine will not work around this situation since the nickname is not used by the game engine. Your computer ID is the first thing tested followed by your IP. While it is possible to log into the server using two nicknames and instances, the game is where the issue will get caught. The game cannot distinguish between the 2 players from the same computer ID. I actually find it remarkable that you actually were able to log both nicknames into the server. This is a very rare occurrence.
I am getting reports of issues with users in the same IP not able to see a friend in the same IP. While this is a common issue, I'm trying to resolve that. What is happening is the software has identified the two users on the same IP as part of the same Network Server. That option has been reserved for LAN MP; Local Area Network Multiplayer. This is not the same condition or a related issue.

Hey guys! 2 days ago I finally got back to Blitzkieg after not playing for about two years. I installed the OpenSpy patch, and a 1 vs 1 multiplayer game worked perfectly! I must say you've made a really good job there! Its just a pity that the community broke apart after shutting down the servers. So now I almost never see people online. Where are you all guys? Would like to meet some more of you for a battle!

I'm currently working on the STEAM Patch trying to align the differences between the original Blitzkrieg Anthology and the STEAM Anthology. There is just enough difference that the game list is not seen by the opposite version. I'm hoping that the Blitzkrieg Anthology 1.3.1 patch will not a require a slight change before release. So that is the current delay. In the meantime, the Temporary Anthology Patch can be downloaded and works perfectly. www.mediafire.com/download/m5nr0g2707hbhbn/OpenspyBK-patcherV2_(2).exeThanks seven for the kind words... and the report.

All hope for your patch. You are doing important and useful work. I would like that to old problems were also solved. 1 is not able to create a server in some cases. Rather not see them. Earlier helped port forwarding. Ordinary users will not be able to do it. 2 Very slow download maps. Most likely this is due to downloading DDS files.
Can you solve these problems? Thank you very much.

Greetings deluxis. I will try to address the issues you listed to the best if my ability.
1 is not able to create a server in some cases. Rather not see them. Earlier helped port forwarding. Ordinary users will not be able to do it.
This has to do with not having the proper ports forwarded in either your modem or router and is not specific to Openspy (or Gamepsy- it was the same there). The correct ports must be functioning to play online, it is that simple. If you are having trouble with this, as I did a while back, you can search threads here and find what has worked for others. If you still can not host , you can post your problems here and the community will likely be able to help you.
2 Very slow download maps. Most likely this is due to downloading DDS files.
This also has nothing to do with whatever server you are using. It was that way on Gamespy and also IP matches, and is now the same on Openspy. It is a problem with specific coding in the Blitzkrieg engine that limits the download speed of maps. Supposedly there was some logic behind the developers of the game doing this, but I for one can not see it. I suspect it was a mistake. There are people, such as Major Pain, who understand the exact mechanics of this issue and it is likely to be addressed at some point.
Welcome to the forums, and I am looking forward to seeing you on the battlefield!

I'm working on the port issue... attempting to automatically working to 'push' port settings for the Server.
The download times can be an issue if you have not previously played a certain map. Once some of the maps have been loaded, the map load times are reduced.
EDIT: The maps and units are already loaded into your folders, so there is no download to load maps. Even new maps created by players are downloaded into your Maps\Multiplayer folder and should be run once so game.exe has a track on them.
New maps do not always have the minimap included until they have been played. These are created when the game is loaded and updated as play continues. That is part of the so called download issue you speak of. It really not a download issue, it is a general load function.

Is there yet a decision? Will it be possible to play Blitzkrieg Anthology (with Steam) without OpenSpy or Gameranger? And can we use Openspy with Anthology?

To piggy back on last comments...I am still not sure if got the answer to this...When we play on "Gameranger", do we need to be using the Openspy patch?? Or, do we just use regular Blitzkieg when playing on it. Thanks, Mike
