Hey guys,
So, I'm starting to get into skinning and I was wondering what numbers do you guys use for different colors in the GIMP color pallet.
These are the color numbers I need:
1. Dunkelgrau (Dark Grey / Panzer Grey)
2. Dunkelgelb nach Muster (Dark Yellow)
3. Rotbraun (Red-Brown)
4. Olivgruen (Olive-Green)
5. Whitewash
Any help would be appreciated.
Ciao, John

Hi ...
I think the color is not always be the same. Sometimes it is better if the color is vivid. Pick a picture of the tank you want to make. Use the color of it. image Here ---> link (show all) you can also see some suggestions. for example. Details, highlight, shadow, wheels, chains, etc. Image , Image

Thanks SJ for invoking my name and waking me up... great alarm clock... lol.
As i advised in an email... the lighting and shadows will affect the colors. The lighting in BK is somewhat artificial. but the shadowing is accomplished with shading. The upper deck areas or parts with a top (skyward) exposure should be lighter than the rest of the model.
The sides need to be a bit darker and as you work downward, they should still get darker. This can be accomplished with the airbrush easier than the paintbrush or pencil. Set the color where you need it... Simple strokes with the airbrush set to darker or lights can add great depth and detail.
You can lighten then darken to add a dirty look. Remember, not all dirt is dark colored... dust for instance might be a lighter color and dirt can be almost any natural color. The amount of moisture in the dirt affects the color... so in a wet environments, you'll find mud splatters or areas caked up. Even dried mud is still dirt.
To find colors for models, search the internet, or use Feldgrau's suggestion. Study artwork or scale models for color ideas. Remember, the color will look darker in BK. If you search Google, set it to images after you begin your search for a tank or truck. When you see one you like, click on it and look at the larger profile... you don't have to go to the site... Right click on the image and select copy... then in GIMP... goto the menu bar in your skin -> Edit _Paste as new. You just moved the image to Gimp in it's own window. You can use the Color Picker Tool to acquire the color from the image... and go from there... You can usually take advantage of an image like this to acquire a host of shades... and you will most definitely see how colors are darker on the sides.
Lighting and shading are everything... even in BK.

Oh, I'm more motivated than ever after seeing those.
Aren't those Schnell-Schuss models?
I'm just having a bit of a time getting started with all of the tutorials and practicing the different techniques. It takes a lot of time to learn, comprehend, and finally create something worthwhile to share with the community.
Motivation is not a problem!

Hey VO,
I've been meaning to ask you a question. In your "3 Tigers" folder, you have one named "PzVIE_TigerI_Early". It's one of MP's models but you gave it a nice panzer grey coloring that I really like. It has different shades of grey throughout the image. How did you do that? Was it all done by hand, or do you use some type of pattern? At what zoom do you work in?
Thanks.
Ciao, John

Dragonwolf, i did it by hand. Mostly I do all by hand. But like this Tiger I first give it a basic grey colour, then with brush i select "splats2" on size 82, coverage Intense colour) 18.7. You can apply different greyshades to get this effect. For mud i use brush "Acrylic 04" 0n different, smaller sizes..also on low intence colouring.

Hey VO, Thanks for the tips. Here's one I've been practicing on. Model: MP Skin: VO Modifications: dragonwolf 1. Hollowed-out numbers. 2. Centered and smaller insignia. 3. Early-style roadwheel hubs. It's not a very good pic but I hope you can see the changes. Tell me what you think. Ciao, John

Hey guys, Here is my base color for my early Tiger command tanks with a few added details. Basically, I just need to add the insignia and numbers for the finished product. Model: MP Skin: dragonwolf It's been a slow learning process but I'm getting there. Thanks. Ciao, John
