About Blitzkrieg:Generation II, since it has come up in a roundabout way...
As many of you know, I have been trying to make some sweeping changes in the way we play BK. I have not released any of the innovations yet, pending one more obstacle that I must overcome. I should know in a day or two where that leads.
But Generation II will embrace the changes which will open the door for many new gameplay changes.
After 6 years of research, sweat and toil.....
and for the first time... here it is:
Not just discussion anymore... a reality!
New Unit TYPES:
TARV = These vehicles are Engineer Based Vehicles (ARV/TRV) which recover other disabled Vehicles. (Functions as designed): Categorized into TARV-Light / TARV-Med / TARV-Heavy
AMPH = Amphibious vehicles that can travel over water only ; (in testing)
AMTR = Dual role Amphibious and Land vehicles. ; (in testing) - marginal success at the moment.
TRLR = Trailer - Unit that can be towed or stand alone for Resupply Ammo only. Has own crew until towed. Possible Flame Fuel.
Infantry Changes:
MEDIC: New unit that can heal wounded in the field. Cannot be attached to a infantry squad or it loses function. (Functions)
CENGR: Combat Engineer - New unit w/new properties (stealth, LayMine)/ Bangalore tube, mines or C4. Carries .45 M3 SMG (Functions)
COFFR: Command Officer - New function to increase Moral over a wider radius of operation. Must be attached to a Command Vehicle and Staff. (In testing)
Command/Function Changes
New states of HP & damage on all vehicles: 100/75/50/25/0 Percent: New Damage textures are not yet working or added. (Functions) To add new damage textures will require additional x.mod files. Testing to see if 1.mod/2.mod can be used. Method used: When HP reaches 49%, vehicle is rendered disabled on tracks/wheels. Can be recovered until 30% HP. Can only be moved from 29% to 0% by TRV - no more than 10 tiles: about 1/3 distance of sight
All vehicles can be recovered if HP is greater than 29%. (Functions) Note: All vehicles must be modified by adding new front locator. Vehicles without front hook, cannot be moved. Note: Some types cannot be recovered. The higher weight vehicles must have higher capacity TARV to move.
Damaged (HP<30%) and Destroyed vehicles remain on battlefield but can be moved by TARV. Cannot be repaired or salvaged.
Tanks can tow Artillery. (LIMITED USE) This included Trailer for Flame Tanks (in testing).
Moral function added. This is in testing working out bugs, which are many. There is a Cohesion Factor as well.
New Medical Truck Function: Crew added that treats wounded. Uses same code as Reloaders and Engineers.
Much more in the works:
Note: Some of the Modifications have already been possible without changes to game.exe and code changes. Latest breakthroughs this year discovered link code for Recovery vehicles on Modified vehicles, and adding new Unit TYPES. This is a significant breakthrough in gameplay. Finding the associated code to allow Amphibious travel was deeply embedded but did not require a code change... only a change in terrain passibility codes and to the vehicle passibility codes. There is a direct link to a single code that makes this work. So it looks like it was planned, but not used. Next issue was adding the AMTR Type for water/land. This will only allow travel from water to layer 0, which is water & beach terrain. Required a new Terrain type and code.
Further codes that have been tested require deeper code changes into Game Date Tables. This is where I am having much success at the moment. But this cannot be released until several things fall into place. Some of this work will go to what I have been working on above. There is a need to change the layer 0 travel codes, which make water a valid terrain type. The work around is a bit haphazard, but does work. Slight changes in the code solve many issues on a suite of issues.
Stay Tuned
Expect first BETA TESTING around NOV 1st 2014.
I'm taking suggestions... but only by email please...
I really don't want a lot of discussion about this right now....
If there is a possibility to do something I will advise. Sadly, not everything is possible...
