Dear fellow players,
some of you might actually remember me to be an old timer in BKP... After a long lull from the fight I just came across BK Anthology in the Mac App store... mmm it was tempting to install it but then I thought: "I have tons of mods that were created by such fine players in the past, will they work in this version? would I be able to install them?"
So I said: "Alex von Grozny's site is the right place to ask" ... Here I am asking you. Does any of you know how to actually play BK1 in a MAc without reverting to install a Windows partition in it? Just to take advantage of the portability of the App store BK's version and in MAC environment.
Just to let you know the scope: I would be delighted to play again Iron Frost (that should be simple as it is .pak files, but then I would need to install MK ( I have it for Windows)...how to do that? If this was not discussed before feel free to share your experiences on the Mac version of this all time favorite game.
Thank you and all the best to all of you...help me to go back playing this gem...

I have to agree with Nephilim on his suggestion. To run BK in MAC, you will need to run in a virtual environment. I'd use the term Virtual Window, but as one of my friends tells me... MAC don't use that word...

I'm playing BK and all its versions and mods with an IMac for a long time, using Boot Camp + Parallels and Windows 7. It works perfectly.

Thanks for all the replies. Nephilim: I found several Wine "wrappers" (like "Wineskin winery" or Wine Bottler" which are superb and inviting names for a software environment!). With this wrappers you should have a controlled environment without the need of "Parallelization". The latter (Mascarenhas2's solution) is perhaps the best solution as it works in the original Windows OS, no fear to say :-), loaded "on top" of the OS X. What is intriguing me is that the Apple APP Store BK1 version seems to be an already "Wrapped" version of Blitzkrieg. So its functionality should be garanteed. My real doubt is: how would the Community mods be installed and run on top of it? I understand that it is a very geeky question, but I think at this point I might give it a try and see if I can share some insight about it. At worst I can revert to Parallels installation... Saluti

The only thing that a MOD does is change or add game files along with maps at times.
So in effect, what you will see is files (Data) within the MOD overwriting original game files or data.
The unique part of a MOD is how it is stored. Unlike .pak files which are placed in the Data Folder, Mods are placed into the MOD Folder.
If you are having success with BK, MODs should not be any different.
But let me point out... some maps or chapters may require MODs for play. If the incorrect version of MOD is on your system, or a MOD does not exist, then you cannot play those maps.
The correct path for a MOD is:
Blitzkrieg (version)\Run\Mods
The Blitzkrieg version is key here, but the Mods Folder always resides in the Run Folder.

Hi, comrades. I've just bought a brand-new IMac, my older one has already 7 good years of service and is a bit tired. I bought a BK1 Mac version in order to use the full features of the machine, but I'm having some troubles to install mods. There's no "run" folder in the package. Should I edit it and add the mod folders?

I need to ask which BK Version are you using?
This sounds like STEAM.

Update: I installed a mod (FR40) for testing purposes. The game opens, the mod appears, but when I start a map, got only CTD. The same happens with Wine...

The version is 1.04, sold for US$19.99 at Apple Store. I suspect I've just burned my money...

Version 1.04... is that from the Properties on the game.exe or where did you get that?
If there is no Run Folder, then there is going to be issues with compatibility. I'm curious how this product was offered. I've been working with NIVAL on the exact same issue for the STEAM Anthology Download. After several tests we finally concluded that the only solution was to start over with the Original Anthology and restore the Run Folder.
If your situation is what we found with the STEAM release, the lack of the Run Folder causes a misread of game data tables, especially for multiplayer. Also, in the Steam Default Path the Game Interface will not load or run MODs or Add-ons. So we are rethinking how the Microsoft Operating Systems handle the Game Files. We do know the Windows Registry causes many of these issues.
On McIntosh, similar issues have been reported. But I do not have a good understanding of how the Mac handles game structures. But there is no need to be concerned about this if you use a Windows based game.
WINE ("Wine Is Not an Emulator") running as a Windows compatibility layer will not run the Mac Version of Blitzkrieg. It will only run the Windows version.
WINE was developed for POSIX-compliant operating systems, such as Linux, Mac OSX, & BSD
If you have a Windows based version of Blitzkrieg, install it and run with WINE.
I have several LINUX systems and WINE runs Blitzkrieg perfectly....
** Apparently we were responding at the very same time...

Update2:
Under BH-RT, MK works as a mod, but high res units are displayed incorrectly (chessboard effect). I don't see how I can fix it since the solution for Windows is an .exe file. Furthermore, game editor is non-existent in Mac version.

Almost back to business. I finally quit everything else, installed good old XP on a virtual machine and now all things are running. Just have to add the patches, mods, and hi res configs to be ready for field fight.
