This is a good reference for topographic maps of Germany and former territories: geogreif.uni-greifswald.de/
There may be 1:10000 scale maps that offer greater detail. Great looking screenshots!

Just a thought: The Battle for Berlin went on from mid-April to the 8th/9th of May, which is late spring in Europe... And I don't mean "first plants are piercing through the snow"-spring but full-on "everything is green and flowers everywhere"-spring. I get that you're going for a gritty, desolate vibe, but I think at least the snow isn't appropriate for this time frame. You could change the tileset retro-actively by editing the .xml, if you wanted to, or stick with the current tile set and just remove all traces of snow. I still think this would be an enjoyable map regardless, but I just wanted to bring it up since you seem to be paying a lot of attention to detail in this project. |

I really do not want to be patronising but because it is April, does not mean that there is a spring in full bloom.
Look at history, 1944/45 winter was the coldest in 100 years if my memory is serving me right. That means that snow was around for longer through April, just as it was shown in the film.
On the contrary 1941 German invasion of Soviet union was the wettest on records, that is why they struggled to make a substantial progress during September/October/November. Yet again, if my memory serves me right.
There were numerous historical events that have been affected by adverse/pro longed weather.

Just to be very clear before I post this: I definitely don't mean to argue back and forth on this issue. It's chulefei's map and he has the artistic freedom to do what he wants and I am totally fine with that. I only brought it up because he seemed to be paying attention close attention to detail and I wanted to help. @fj: I currently live in Berlin (just a few hundred meters from the edge of his map actually) and from my experience, there's is absolutely no chance for snow to stick around for that long. Yes, we've had some freak snowfalls in spring (it snowed on the 31st March this year for example), but it always melts in an afternoon. For snow from winter to stay around this long... no way. Then again, we all know that climate change is a thing and maybe back then the climate was a little bit harsher. In any case, your reply made me really curious what the climate was really like in Berlin '45 (because I don't know for sure either), and whether there is accurate weather measurements for this time frame that are available online, or whether we'd have to resort to looking at photos from the battle and draw our conclusion from there. So I did a little research: Amazingly, this website has historic data for each day in April 45. While the temperature dropped just below zero on one occasion (15.4.1945), there isn't a single instance of recorded snowfall in Berlin. Temperatures were usually between 3 and 15°, needless to say snow wouldn't last a day. This website supports these stats, claiming it was between 8°C and 16°C on the 1.4.1945. Unfortunately doesn't go any further, but at least we can be sure that snow from that winter, no matter how cold it was, would have melted long before the battle started. Finally, I found these memoirs of a Russian bomber pilot: "Insbesondere der letzte Einsatz Ende April 1945 blieb für mich unvergesslich. Unser Ziel war der Flugplatz Tempelhof, wo angeblich noch viele Jäger und Jagdbomber der deutschen Luftwaffe in Hallen einsatzbereit standen. Der wolkenlose Himmel, herrliches Wetter, grüne Feld und blühende Gärten unten." SourceThe highlighted parts translate as follows: End of April 1945... Tempelhof (Berlin)... Clear skies, wonderful weather, green fields and blooming gardens below. Also, I just skipped through Downfall on Netflix, but I couldn't find any scenes that featured snow, so I'm not sure what you were referring to. So I think it can be concluded that it's extremely unlikely that it was snowy during the Battle for Berlin. Looking at the first link I posted, it seems like April 45 was pretty typical for April: Not too cold, not too warm, with the occasional warmer/colder than usual night/day. Again, chulefei, please don't get this the wrong way, I don't want to dictate you what to do. You do your thing and your maps looks great either way! I only went off tangent, because talking about it has made me genuinely curious about how it was like. |

Sorry for the update delayed.
Mat and I try to convert the map to workable with HF45 new version.
But we failed.
So the map must be remapping almost from the very beginning.
But it is also a chance to fix some unreasonable map designs, ex. the road is too narrow for fighting.
And the new map changed dramatically. If everything is fine, it will be released in next month.
it will be very different from the former version.

Sorry for the update delayed. The Battle of Berlin Chapter is no dead, It is on working now. Because of Updateing of the HF45 the Map was remapped 100%. Plz wait it will cost some times,but I promise I will finish it.   |
