Well it is a World War! Actually, I think Im going to just do the French German border for now. The more images slows down the application a bit.

I about fell over when I saw this post on the WorldWind forum:
"Hi All -
My team is looking into the possibility of using WW in its development of a world war 2 game. The game is a global strategic simulation, so we feel ww would be a great fit. We intend on using D3D to assist in layering game units (ground forces, air units, ships, etc.) on top of the ww display.
So, we are currently looking to hire a ww experienced programmer to assist us. Preliminarily, we need to discuss this idea with a ww programmer to make sure it is a good fit. If so, we'll procede with a short-term contract to accomplish the work.
Please write me at dfite@ventera.com if you are qualified and interested. Since the player UI is written in WPF, and we are contemplating the use of Direct3d in layering game-specific objects, we would prefer someone with some level of experience in these languages as well. Also, if you have any game development experience, that's a plus too.
We anticipate this to be a 4-6 week engagement, and you are free to work off-hours (we realize that most people have a full time "day job"). However, please don't apply unless you have a significant number of hours (at least 20) per week that you are available to work on this project.
Thanks! I look forward to hearing from you!
Dan - Chain of Command Games"
Life is interesting sometimes. Too bad I dont know WPF and Direct3d.

Thanks Zorakandme. You bet I need help with the Global Campaign project. Especially, with making BK maps and finding aerial images or city maps with lat/long data. I want to find accurate city maps so I know where to place bridges, roads, etc and then build bk maps for them. Right now I am concentrating on the Aachen area and Saarland area. I will post some images I have tomorrow.
Thanks again. Anything you can help with is greatly appreciated!

I have decided to release my work on Global Campaign as a player aid for either single player or multiplayer applications. You can use it as a situation map but there will also be supporting html pages so you can play as a character and track your progress with spreadsheets and screenshots. It will all be basically blank so that they can be edited as you wish. I will also be releasing custom layers such as the topo maps of France and Germany individually so you can use only the layers you need. It will also include a free flight simulator, Flight Gear, and free 3D modeling software such as gmax and Blender. There will be custom campaigns for Silent Hunter 3. All will be available separately for download so you only get what you want. I will make a manual to show how to customize the content. I will provide three icons for units and the instructions will include how to make as many as you need. Here are some new additions: Color shaded relief The Natural Earth addon Color terrain Kriegsmarine grid map (wip) As soon as I get the file structure organized I will release the terrain and unit layers. Then I will release the topo map layer for France. Topo layers for other countries will be released as I complete them. It does take time. Germany will be next after France and then Poland as I have found a good source for those. That's all for now.

Thanks Folgore. I am looking forward to adding those topo maps of Italy. My mother's family is from north of Milan and my grandfather was in the Alpine Guard in the 1920s. I'll see if I can post the picture of him in his uniform. They moved to the US in the early 1930s though.
One of these days I am going to do a winter Alpine chapter.

Thanks Zaltar! I keep getting sidetracked with new ideas. I have finished the France topos and will release them when I finish the help files that explain how to edit everything.
EDIT: The sizes for the maps of France alone are over 900mb. Im currently working on the readme doc that explains how to edit the image layers and icon layers. If anyone wants the files send me a pm and I will break up the files into smaller downloads (sendspace has 300mb limit) , finish the readme and post the files.

The sizes for the maps of France alone are over 900mb. Packed? ZIP, RAR, and EXE files reduce the file size, particularly that of text, tremendously. Big help for images too. If you have 900MB of pics and you pack them well or make an EXE file for them, they could easily shrink down to around 600MBs.
