I don't see where this game is dying out. I read nearly every post and this game is constantly evolving by the efforts of this community. Random reinforcements by incorporating C++ commands into Lua. Creating forward observers to direct off-board artillery fire. The list goes on and on.
So there is not the commercial support there used to be. That is natural. Every company is always looking for the next great product and ignoring products which don't have the sales to support further development. But the BK community has shown itself to be a world-wide development team that has kept this game evolving much longer than nearly every other game out there. My son has a shelf of unused games. Call of Duty and other critically-acclaimed games sit unused while he plays and mods Star Wars Battlefront II.
Some of the old guard has gone, for various reasons. But there are new people showing up who are willing to learn and not only pick up the slack but bring a fresh perspective and new ideas as well. That is a sign this game will continue to have a longer life and evolve further. Who knows, perhaps someone will figure out a chapter where the only core unit will be the player and that player will need to accomplish a mission and survive in order to advance from one map to another, get promoted, and all that. Similar to a first person shooter game.
Don't give up or get discouraged. This game has a lot left to offer.
