This will be the thread for the Multi-Player Global Campaign.
This thread will be for the BK portion. If there are Silent Hunter 3, Warship Combat - Navies At War, or Harpoon 3 players, I can post information for those as well.
There can be options such as Play By Mail and Play By E-Mail with single player maps or the MP campaign using MP maps.
Teams of one or more players will play as a country and have control of the maps in their country. One or more players will control a tank platoon, a motorized infantry platoon, engineering platoon, artillery battery or infantry company. Maps will be designed so that reinforcements for each player are available from each direction and will be controled by the scripts. This will allow maximum diversity with a minor edit of the script.
Teams will allocate troops to cities which will then be available for combat. Teams can place defenses and troops at the start of the campaign, before any combat starts.
If one country decides to invade another, they will notify the other country's team to schedule a match. The progress will be maintained on the UI which will be updated and available to all players via download.
Spreadsheets will track production and available units, losses, etc.
Each city will be a chapter in the BK game. I have a tactical map for Bremen which over 20 maps. This will make capturing a city much more complex than a single mission. This will also allow a career to be tracked using the BK engine.
Presently, I am using satellite, aerial images and historical maps for the layout of maps. I figure a 32x32 BK map is approximately one square mile. I like 20x20 maps, so these will represent approximatley 3/4 square mile.
All maps will be created using stock BK or BKBH. Teams can decide which mod they want to use for their units but must make it available to the other teams. Modifications to weapon ranges must be stated so that both sides use the modified ranges.
The campaign will consist of three games running the same (nearly) campaign concurrently. Events in one game will be reflected in the others.
I need to judge interest in this for planning purposes. If there is no one to play as Great Britain, then I will make single player maps for GB using historical data.
I just picked up an old desktop computer which has 100 gigs dedicated to this project. I hope to have a website using this server in the near future. Maps, screenshots, communication between teams will be there. In the mean time I will use this thread.
This is historical up to 1934. After that, each country decides their actions.
I am in the process of creating Nation pages for Germany right now and will post when complete. This will give an idea of the UI. If someone wants one for their team, I can work on that too or that team can create one.
Who's interested?

I am still working on the Global Campaign project under the Maps section but still dont have my new computer up and running yet. It basically provides a map interface to access the blitzkrieg maps and to assist in creating new ones.
For MP use, players can use the map interface to view strategic and tactical maps, share files, and plan missions. A c++ program will read and write global variables in the chapter.lua script file for things like weather, next map, objectives, etc. I won't be able to make anymore progress though until I get the new machine running.
If I have any developments, it will likely be posted in the other topic.
Thanks.

Thanks Zaltar. I have been working on the UI on my no-graphics-card computer while I sort out my new computer problems. Can you believe its all put together and just sitting there. Im still having troubles installing XP on the damn thing. So, I have been working on using arcGIS explorer to access the content as its free and doesnt require a graphics card. I still prefer to use WorldWind but this keeps me busy in the meantime. It has alot of good features such as being able to add layers such as near realtime weather data. I plan to use real weather in BK (rain, snow, night/day) through the use of global variables in the chapter.lua script file. I should be able to access it using c++ or c#. Its easy to add notes and pop-up content like pictures and html pages. This way you can easily add campaign content such as objectives and icons for units. Its more complex to add stuff than WorldWind but it takes a few seconds to draw radius circles (air defense range, etc) compared to WW where you have to calculate each point in the circle. I will probably use WW to create the BK maps but this program is good at putting information at your fingertips, bathymetry, city locations, building locations, adding images, etc. So for MP players content can be shared between players by just exchanging common files. The building footprints are really exciting though for recreating cities in BK accurately. So, I am still working on it as otherwise I would get bored to death. Here are some screens of ArcGIS explorer: I'll post some screens of what I have put together. I waited to add USA data as I figured that would be easiest and it has turned out to be great. I have added 1930s aerial imagery for several east coast states, coastal charts, points of interest such as shipyards and naval bases. Also alot of economic statistics but these are for Silent Hunter 3 and other games such as flight sims so its not strictly BK related. My ultimate goal is to provide a virtual world for several different game engines and using custom c++ programs to communicate game results to the map.

You better hurry up with getting your machine running, I will be putting a Bulldozer in my AMD rig by the time you get your Blue team machine going at his rate. So I guess all attempts at changing the AHCI settings were fruitless? I hate to say it, but as soon as you get a kick-butt modern machine that plays the newer huge-map full 3d games BK is going to start seeming really old and limited. Too bad Battlestations Pacific is (supposedly) hard to mod, that would be an ideal platform for a project of the scope you are working on, particularly the tactical map- it is outstanding.

I hear ya. BK maps have a "painting" look about them though and sometimes when I was making maps I felt like Bob Ross. The single perspective and limited choices when placing buildings though is my biggest gripe. Here are some screen from what I have been working on lately. To summarize, there is content for several countries. Economics, military, statistics, etc are on html pages that can be viewed by a browser or from the map. It is easy to add wms server content such as imagery and weather data. A player can create a character that creates a character page to keep track of statistics and to receive orders, maintain story lines, etc. Or you can just click on unit icons on the map to open BK maps or other games. It can be used for as a multi-player environment and to combine several games like BK, SH3, flight;vehicles sims, etc. This is an example of what I am after: www.procedural.com/There are map viewers options presently, WorldWind and arcGIS Explorer. Both are free and customizable. Each have their strengths and weaknesses. In a way its just a way to organize content to make better chapters. The heights program I am working is called BKtopo.exe and will be included. As well as historical topo, strategic, and campaign maps to create accurate and diverse chapters. These are screenshots from arcGIS Explorer as it doesnt require a graphics card. [img src=" img89.imageshack.us/img89/2379/globalgisx.jpg"] Eventually all this information will (hopefully) be translated into global variables that can be read by BK, other games, and my program's logic. For example, the placement of airfields can determine the time and availability of air support to surrounding maps and can be graphically represented on the map by range rings.

Wow, that is great stuff. I think at some point I linked to show you what the RailRoad Tycoon 3 map creator can do. What you are showing here goes beyond the detail of the RRT3 global map generator.
P.S. What is the exact model of your CPU and Mobo? If I recall correctly you are putting together a Nehalem (9?0) with an actual Intel board? I can dig around a bit and try to find some more info on your XP dilemna to make sure we have a maximum chance of getting it working if you bring it up here.

Yeah, that's what gave me the idea to combine simulators. If the player has a train sim, missions could be to transfer supplies from the ports and mines to the factories and refineries. Successful missions mean armies get their tanks or whatever. Rail was quite important to the war effort. Along those same lines, there is another aspect that I want to add for the UK player: www.simsig.co.uk/. Additionally, for air operations maps of each country's air defense systems can help create scenarios for this sim: www.atc-sim.com/PS I got the dx58so2 intel mobo with the corei7 960 processor. I thought this was a good idea but I have read articles (after I bought it) about the poor bios interface and intel boards in general.

I frequent some performance computer forums, I will ask around some about XP issues relating to that gear. Also, you were asking a bout an IDE/SATA adapter before, is this your primary drive? In my case it turned out to not matter what type the destination drive was, but that might be different with your gear.

Oh I have visited the forums and am intimate with the Intel download center. I did the chat with intel support twice with mixed results. When it's set to IDE I shouldnt need to load drivers but it always fails during in the preinstallation process when installing devices. I still have to check the stop error at the MS site. I bought a new SATA drive. I was wrong to think it would read the drive with the converter because it didnt show up in Bios. I will eventually get an external enclosure so I can still utilize the IDE HDDs. Plus it has a cool blue light. The MB has 2 digit display for status codes and everything should be fine. Its $40 to have the motherboard tested. If its not a hardware problem it has to be a software problem. It's getting to be a physical problem because I can't remember the last time I played BK

Have you tried to install Win 7? When I was having trouble installing XP due to a similar problem as yours recently, I was not having trouble installing 7. I have a copy we can try just to see if it is a hardware issue and not just something relating to XP.
