Someone at one time suggested a program chm2web to convert the RES help file from chm to html. Mine was always corrupt. These are the html pages that were created. www.sendspace.com/file/to328gUnzip into a folder and click on index.html to start.

I have done what you suggested. I have the folder stashed in my Blitzkrieg\misc folder, and can run it manually whenever I want.
Can we link it into the ResEd so that it can be run directly from there by the help tab?
(The above sounds like complaining that it is good, but not good enough. I should say thanks, because this will presumably help me understand a piece of useful software that I never understood before.)

That's not complaining, it should have worked in the first place.
Be advised, some of the "help" is a vague description of the feature. I was hoping for a walk through type manual. It is helpful though to demonstrate the type of control you have over the game. That's why this game has such longevity.

Okay, let me try it another way. I have a "RES editor help html" folder full of files. If I put it in the right place - such as the Bltizkrieg\Run folder - will it be accessable when I am running the ResEd, or is it a stand-alone item?

The RES has these editors that the help file covers. As well as useful information on file types, setup and so forth.
River Editor Road Editor Bridge Editor Building Editor Campaign Editor Chapter Editor Effect Editor Fence Editor Medal Editor Unit Editor Mine Editor Mission Editor Object Editor Particle Editor Sprite Editor Squad Editor Terrain Editor Trench Editor Infantry Editor Weapon Editor

Is there a fast and easy way to get the Res Ed to produce a chapter map from a .bmp or .tga map? I've got a couple of chapters ready to go, except they don't have chapter maps. I'd like to release them complete.
Alternately is there another way to do this conversion?

Well, rename your map to map.tga, give it the path to the chapter creator in resource editor, and after that give the comand "generate" (dont worry about the other options, once you wont use the other files generated by the resource editor). And all you need is copy the dds files generated by the resource editor. The coordinates you can make by hand, as we use to do with 1.xml files of single missions.

I renamed my map with irvanview to map.tga. I put it in the scenarios\custom\chapters\**** folder of my chapter. I then ran ResEd and set it to the chapter editor. I saved a new chapter file to the above folder. I tried to call up the map.tga, but the ResEd could not find it.
I also could not find the word "generate" anywhere in the Chapter editor. The only thing I could find was "export," and that (as usual) told me that I was exporting to the wrong folder and refused to function.
You're going to have to be more explicit here, bb. I'm not getting it.

LouisXIV: the standard help file for MS windows software would be .chm format. Mostly, using html beside the software, is just as good, it only takes 2 clicks more...
About the chapter map: 1. from resources kit, copy map.tga and current.chc from an existing chapter that is matching your chapter the best. 2. you know this, but paste map.tga and current.chc in your Scenarios/Custom/Chapters/MyChapter, then load the current.chc into the ResEditor. 3. after editing the map.tga, in the ResEditor under Basic Info, you can browse and set the path for the map.tga; it should work by default, but re-assure yourself this path is correct! if not, it will not work. renaming the file is possible, but should then have the same name in your path of course. 4. click the generate button and it should make a .dds file. often, at this stage, you'll be prompted where to export to and in case you are saving outside run/data, you might get the typical ResEditor error msg. don't worry and save the file to whatever path you browse to. if you don't pay attention in this step, it might save the file(s) in a MyMod folder/Scenarios/etc. and you will need to copy it again. 5. the map.tga and current.chc are not necessary to run the chapter in the end result (you'll probably also know), but keep this into your original folder in case you ever want to load them again in the editor.
This procedure works for me. good luck!
