In your opinion, who were the best mappers of the past. Why? You can chose 3 names. The options are inactive or almost inactive mappers, so nobody will cry to not be included.
My List:
1. Dmitry M. A real master in unit placement and simple scripts. A very prolific mapper in a time few people knew to deal with BK. Also I enjoy him cause he made works for all sides (soviets, allied, axis).
2. GordonCZ. Achtung, Panzer! and Motherland Calls are both two big classics. His other works also are nice.
3. Mr.Frost. Meaby the best scripter. He is not my nr.1 because he prefered to make maps to axis in late scenario and in the last years he just work with MK (not my favourite side, scenario and mod).

I could only go with Dmitry M. I haven't played Haglesturm or MK enough to judge Frosti or Stahlsohle. Gordon's AP was quite nice for its time, but MC was quite a disappointment for me; it changed the gameplay completely w/o any way to tell it actually was historically accurate, while at the same time IMHO most of the maps weren't worth relearning the system. I liked a few of MC's maps, but overall much less great than AP. Currently, I like maps by Simeo and Ilyaka, mainly for their quality (huge and extremely detailed/realistic), a few of my own ;D / , though I usually get tired of them by the time they're 100% finished. I enjoy most maps though and respect the mappers still around which are whilling to put their time into mapping.

Don't remember well but I think Gordon did great job with flaks (survivability of recon aircraft got better) and sights (like you really had to move infantry with armor).

1. Mr Frost Although almost all his maps are on the eastern front, he gets my top position for his western front maps.
2. Other. There to many good mappers how I should put here. HungaryBlitz, BB, Ocelo and Simeo.
3. ManHunter. There at present better mappers around however, I remember ManHunter's maps as the ones I enjoyed the most in the beginning.

Purely out of interest, what were the game play changes in MC? I am curious since i've never played it The most important changes: 1-Removed the artillery circles. 2-More resistant aircraft (but less acurate too, close to MK). 3-More resistant infantry. 4-Changed values of all tanks, vehicles, etc. Ocelos is a grumbler, the changes arent so radical, is just a matter of get used with it. I really enjoied MC (but I must admit AP is a little better). I haven't played Haglesturm or MK enough to judge Frosti or Stahlsohle. You really dont know what you are losing. Try Hagelsturm Ostfront, little maps as you like, and very, very, very nice missions. keepitsimple: thanks to remember my name, but I'm not a mapper of the past yet ;D

It seems Mr.Frost will win the 1st place. I think is fair, I'm playing his "Road to Salingrad" and is really great. Even to an old addicted as myself...

I voted Leon,
A master in mapping dessert maps and even better on scripting the maps.
Just my 2 cents.

I had to go with Gordon CZ for the best old mapper. Achtung Panzer still blows my mind that he did something so amazing with so very little modded material. Considering that when most people work on BK they need to use a more powerful mod, one can really appreciate his work.

i liked Oncle Noy a lot, also Milknova, Devil, Kristallagent
the thing i hated in Manhunter maps, was that you always got only one supply base at the other side of the (large) map...

Probably realistic, though.
Better than those maps that give you supply depots but no warehouse.

Probably realistic, though. true, but i lost hours driving those engineers to the other side and back... but this said with all respect to Manhunter and his maps. i don't want to nag about it.

Speaking of mapmakers from the past, a while ago I noticed a ReadMe.txt file for a set of maps intended to replace the original Blitzkrieg campaigns maps. Now I can't find them. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
