Sorry for late reply. I haven't done too much in Fields so I don't have an answer as to how you could assign the mines. I would have to test the possibilities, but I think Louis may have already done that or well on the way. When it comes to creating maps, I let the rest of you do your magic. That is my weakest area for BK. I can look at the codes involved and see how that looks, but without testing, I couldn't prove it. And for what it is worth... I am still rebuilding my system.... Anyone want to come over and give me some help? I'm down to my last few hairs this time around and need another head to pull hair from. I am having some serious MAYA withdrawal fits...

I wouldn't go for that at all. Even on a multiplayer map that can be a pain. Considering that your supply trucks tend to be automated - they run back for supplies without you telling them to - that definitely could cause problems. On single-player it's going to be worse, because all the AI units are automated.
On occasions where I have encountered an extensive enemy minefield, I have felt required to remove all of it, just because of my supply trucks that choose their own path. Otherwise I've had to micro-manage the trucks.

Yes, having realistic mines does present some playability issues for sure. However, since you do not play Multiplayer you are probably not aware of some of the tactics employed like "Base Camping" where people just hole up in a corner and mine the heck out of their area. Effective- but boring. Having mines that can be triggered by either side would make you choose the location of a mined area very carefully- just like in RL.

Also, I would think the mines would be located along the front line and the supply area a considerable distance behind.
