Hi guys, after many tests i have managed to have a solution for GameSpy problem. This package will patch Blitzkrieg so that it will use OpenSpy.net master server instead of GameSpy's server. The purpose of this package is to deal with GameSpy's servers going offline in the near future. Changelog 18/05/14 -Updated OpenSpy Overlay, now it's fixed and i consider it final version (renamed OpenSpy_Overlay_BETA3.pak to OpenSpy_Overlay.pak) -Program detects if a old openspy overlay exists and removes it -Program detects if a old patcher version exists and removes it ------------------------------------------------------------- Instructions -Place OpenspyBK-patcherV2.exe in 'Run' folder and run it. So this will enable Openspy without having to manually change the DNS? I just wrote a lengthy tutorial on how to do that , and figured that an internal fix in BK might be worked out later, but it appears that later is now! Thanks for figuring this out, I will give it a whirl right now, and I guess I need to add a disclaimer to my tutorial if this patch does indeed work properly, which I am assuming it does.
A question I have is this: If I install this patch, will I be able to enter the still functioning Gamespy room? I am assuming this is not the case, and that perhaps for the short term I may have to make an extra install so that I can log in to either server? Or is there an easy way to remove the patch and revert to the original Gamespy IP?

With this patch is not necesary to change the dns to play in OpenSpy.net, but if you patch you can't enter to the still functioning GameSpy room.
If you want to play in original GameSpy room you just have to execute Openspy_Restore-BK.bat

Woohooo! I just tried it and I was able to enter Openspy, and then I reverted and went into Gamespy. Now all that is necessary is to get those in the BK Gamespy chat room to listen up and get their butts over here to get the patch. I guess I can either take down my how-to on manually changing the DNS now that you have made this or at least put in a link that directs them here. You sir are a hero for doing this. I know it isn't much, but for your efforts here is a creme filled chocolate covered donut with bacon on top!

I have been trying to "hold down the fort" at the Openspy BK server to let people who make it there know that the server is working. Thus far I have not seen another player there, but the word is not out about this yet. If any members here could install the patch created by mortbert and hang out on OpenSpy it would be a big help, even if you have no intentions of playing a Multiplayer match. When you enter the empty room it is hard to tell if it is actually working, so having some players in the chat area will let them know.

Hello gentlemen... Let me simplify the question if I may... What yer saying is a "patch" that alters the BK configuration forwarding it to a different server "ftp hosting service" called Openspy and it works just the same? BK thinking it is still just the internal GameSpy server it was originally designed to work with while in reality it is forwarded to a new and active server... Am I interpreting this right? EDIT: This seems to be more of a personal server supporting mainly PS2 games... Supported Games Air Conflicts: Pacific Carriers (PS2) Call of Duty: Finest Hour (PS2) Call of Duty 2: Big Red One (PS2) Empire Earth II (PS2) Empire Earth II: The Art of Supremacy (PS2) Empire Earth III (PS2) FlatOut (PS2) FlatOut 2 (PS2) Marvel: Ultimate Alliance (PS2) SWAT 4 (PS2) SWAT 4: The Stetchkov Syndicate (PS2) The Hustle: Detroit Streets (PS2) Tony Hawk's Proskater 4 (PS2) Tony Hawk's Underground (PC, PS2) Tony Hawk's Underground 2 (PC, PS2) Tony Hawk's American Wasteland (PC) World Series of Poker (PS2) Worms 4: Mayhem (PS2) X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse (PS2) How can we count on what feels like more of a personal operation long-term? Also... Do you even have permission to do such a thing? BK is obviously not on the Supported Games list which leads me to believe either they are unaware of this or that consent is in transit... While the concept seems ideal... Lets be reassured that the server is... -iLeeT_PeeP

That is correct, Peep. While I was trying to write a how-to to manually change the DNS to direct BK to Openspy, member mortbertjh wrote the patch which changes the address called by BK inside of the game and directs it to the Openspy server, which BK thinks is Gamespy. We need to get the word out about this, it is the answer to the whole Gamespy shutdown problem.
Edit to add: The Openspy team was given the source code to Gamespy servers by Gamespy so there is not an issue about permission. From what I understand, the Openspy servers are identical to the Gamespy servers and ALL games that were hosted by Gamespy will work here. That list that you quoted from the Openspy site is actually incorrect, in that many of the games listed as PS2 are actually PC only games. Empire Earth being one example of this. BUT, that does not matter. What matters to us BK Multplayers is that BK does in fact work on Openspy, even though it is not on that (incorrect) list.

I want to share this great news on the french forum but there's a question who's coming to my mind : is the openspy server use the same ports as gamespy server ? Yes, I can verify that Openspy uses the exact same ports as Gamespy. It is an identical copy of the Gamespy server. I am on there right now, so drop by and say hi. Mortbertjh's patch is a thing of beauty and changing from Openspy to Gamespy is simple and works flawlessly.Even so, I have made two installs of BK, one for each so I can go back and forth between Openspy and Gamespy until Gamespy goes down on the 31st. I had done this before I was certain that the revert option built by mortbert worked, so I will just keep both copies for now, but I did test to make sure the revert to Gamespy option works, and I can report that it works flawlessly.

openspy.net/This is nothing I made up it is directly from the "Openspy" website... Again strict permission would be best... if this is their website... Im sure they would very much mind a community they are unaware of spawning into their server and taking up bandwidth.. Its not a matter of "if it works...", I believe you that it does... Its a matter of are they aware and are all permissions in order. We do not need to make a mockery of our community and stamp a bad name on it with unprepared actions... -iLeeT_PeeP

They are well aware of Blitzkrieg, Peep. The list of supported games is only a tiny fraction of those that are actually supported. Openspy will actually support all or darned near all of the hundreds of games that Gamespy does, it is just a matter of whether someone has made a patch for a specific game or not, and for BK there is now a patch.
P.S: Openspy has been operating for over a year now, and they are actively recruiting as many players from as many games and platforms (Nintendo DS, PS2, PC, etc etc) as they possibly can. What most people do not realize is that the Gamespy system (and the Openspy system) is not actually a "game server", it is only a match making service that connects each player to each other and then the game is run locally- and since there is no "game server", the amount of players that can be supported is pretty much limitless, exactly the same as Gamespy was.

If we can get all permissions in order and it seems like a potential option, I will gladly support this patch. When I arrive at my home PC I will look into this patch and if possible in a joint operation with mort I would like to revise and possibly improve the patch with maybe an installer, logos and GFX, and multi-language support. mortbertjh Let me know if this sounds acceptable... Good work on your find! -iLeeT_PeeP

I for one do not like the idea of an "installer". Some people might find it useful, BUT, there are lots more who will NOT run an .exe from a dubious source (like a game modder). I am one of those people. There is also the issue of installers failing because a game install is not in the place where the installer thinks it should be. I do think a pictorial how-to of where to place the patch is in order though, especially since the vast majority of BK Multiplayers do not have the foggiest idea of their folder structure and such.
Also: You can put the permission issue to bed permanently, the people running it have helped get BK operating on Openspy.
