I 100% agree with von about the 'spam' (flood of jokes, videos etc), and - while it may sound harsh - I'm glad I am not the only one feeling like that. In fact, it has been driving me away as well, not to the point to completely abandon the community, but to the point that has made me feel like "Meh, why post about <insert idea/theory/something about BK mechanics> if nobody's gonna give a shit about it? I'm alone on this one, so I'll post once I have complete data (see: almost never)". I'm not a fan of von leaving, but if he feels like that, it is his choice. However, von, I'd advise you to act like I do. Stick around (read around whenever you can), pop up once in a while to see what's up (make a post or two to boost morale), then go on with your business. You do not have to contribvute with each of your posts, I believe you have given us more that enough. I have been involved in the community for a very long time going as far back as BKP under other nicknames and aliases and I am also in agreement with Von Osten on his opinion and statement. This community has changed and not necessarily in a positive direction in terms of positive contributions and keeping on-topic. I can't recall how many times I see so many off-topic posts with various lyrics, texts, im chats styles, music videos and anything else that doesn't belong other than an off-topic forum. This doesn't encourage participation in the forum when a thread or topic becomes so diluted and doesn't stay to it's original premise. Alot of this posting is simply unecessary in my opinion and resembles more of im-chat than discussing actual matters related to BK. You might ask why I don't participate or post more often and this is also one of the reasons. I have to sift through and filter so much material and off-topic content and posts that it makes it a troublesome task and that really makes it in an inconvenience.
I will also be honest if there is no encouragement or incentive to post or to contribute if the thread matter and subject will be diluted or hijacked why would it encourage those to stay or to be more active?
I also can't fault Von Osten for choosing to leave or to pursue other matters. During the days of BKP I found myself with more free time and spare-time that I can allocate to this hobby. However things change (either for good or for bad) where we find ourselves at crossroads and our modding and hobby activities are curtailed.
I laid out my thoughts on this topic and I have no regrets about doing so. I initially held off but I can't keep silent on this matter any further as this is something that needs to be looked into and addressed. I am not singling out any particular individual or person but this is now a widespread problem that cannot be ignored.
Regards,

Regards,Second this. I would also like to point a something out: i'm not the most talkative guy in this community, but I joined the forum on July 21. 2010. My first post was on May 29, 2011 in WW2 quiz thread (shame that one died out). Now first thing is: at the time I wouldn't dream that I would reach over 1000 posts, but it happened eventually. Some of them were related to mapping, however at least a 1/3rd of them were not and were either related to off topic or WW2 quiz. This brings me to second thing: in the last year or so, i've seen both new and old members reach well over a thousand posts in under a year (no offense against them). Funny thing is half of them were not related to BK, but were what could be classified as off topic or to quote gagarin "For an interesting communication on abstract themes, there are social networks.". Frankly while annoying when I attempt to search the forums, I don't think any of those members meant any harm. Therefore my 2 cents are: either we start to filter the threads more thoroughly and create a sort of off topic open thread to move those posts there or this issue will reach a boiling point where more and more members will leave the community because we couldn't enforce (might be too harsh word) the rules laid out by Aleksandar.

Gentlemen i made a decision. i completely changed my time i will spent at work, that i can give more/better effort to the best Game of the World. That means ill earn a bit less money, but anyway i have everything i need and i never asked more than this. So from today on ill be more often online in daytime less in the night because the loss of sleep wasnt good for my health. (here its 9am right now which will be the time ill log on) posting less, releasing more

Vonosten's decision is unfortunate, but I understand it and respect it. Hopefully his "retirement" is just temporary. I wish him all the best regardless. I wish I had more time for BK myself (my girlfriend has even insisted I spend some time on it), but on my part I can't do much work (or play much either) until my master dissertation on the military aspects of the Munich Crisis of 1938 is finished in February. However, after that I can look forward to work on the game again.

It has been a positive move to have started this conversation. I'm glad with all oppinions. My comment was not meant to certain individuals, but more about a trend that started off and made me less happy. An idea crossed my mind which bb pointed out as well today. Its how new contributions where handled in the good old BKP, by having one treat for maps, one for mods, one for textures. It makes it maybe less chaotic. People can give their comments, but for extended (topic-related!) discussions one can do this on the personal threat of the map/mod/texture maker. For off-topic threats there's allready one existing threat, and its not that hard to post there whatever one feels to share.
Thereby I feel myself very related to this site, and thinking of not completely abandon. There are some things I work on, and like to share in future. Maybe if BK Gen. II could have a restart, it would motivate me to cooperate in this project. I am convinced our good old game still has a great potential and certainly in this time, when new tactical WWII games seems almost non-existent.

@major Pain: you keep blaming yourself, but I truly think you shouldn't. There is a life outside of BK and some things just happen which you can't always control. You have been the best moderator since BKP and I'm sure you have been putting too much of your free time into it already. Anyway, the actions of some members are NOT your fault!
vonosten: I understand the frustration and I think all of us have had the thought of leaving and lots have. What I didn't like, was having to read about azzkissers and old men's club. When we start throwing mud, we're back in the old wars, just like the big east-west war. You could have said it a bit less rude, I think. In the end, we're all human and I'm sure no one meant any harm. And I also hope you won't be leaving.
What saddens me the most, is that there are just a few ppl left who still play. The active members here do not play (I think). They mod, map or skin. And yes, like bb says, mapping is blood, sweat and tears for almost nothing in return. Exept the silent users who do play. They shouldn't be sanctioned for being silent, it is their right. They come here to check, no to chat.
Soon, I might also become silent because I have spent more than enough time into BK. Although I like mapping, the weight of modding has costed me too much time. I regret that we haven't worked more together instead of working next to each other.

if people dont play (which could be also true) why people pass by here? Maybe because they make skins, mods, maps etc. As far as I know it isn't a requirement to play. However I think it's a generalisation that active members don't play. Sure they probably don't play every day or every mod, but they still play to a bigger or smaller degree. I still play, if I like a map I comment on it. Simple as that. 5 years ago I played as well but I didn't comment on maps not because I didn't like them but I didn't have to.

Kaoz, I understand you have problems with some of the words I have used. Normally I always keep polite. But now I thought of a different aproach. I wanted to be heard! So it was on purpose to use somewhat more strong language, but on the other hand I'm not a poet and a straight message makes, when necessary, more clear then frases with the smell of perfume..

I'm just glad because you're glad. We truly needed to be shaken a bit. I will close this as soon as VO gives me the go ahead.... and then I might bury it for good.
