Hello!
I used to enjoy Blitzkrieg back in the day on my old PC and 800*600 CRT monitor. I could play for several hours and could enjoy the game completely.
However, now with a laptop I have a strange problem with BK I cannot fix. Namely, my eyes start to hurt after about half an hour of playing, more playing provokes red eyes and even headache.
I can play other old/new games and so far Blitzkrieg is the only old game which is unplayable because of this strange problem.

Go to Blitzkrieg/Run. Open the config. file using notepad (or something like that, dunno about macs), and ctrl+f (search) for 'setvideomode'. Look around, you will find a couple of resolutions, and change them to your liking (I've set mine at 2560x1440x32). Save, then make the file to be 'read only' (right click on it, go to properties). Hope that helps. Here's a similar thread, more helpful.

Thanks for your feedback!
I know about changing resolution in the config file and I tried practically everything. The best option is native monitor resolution.
Even on native resolution the screen switches to a videomode (and to 800x600 menus as well) and presumably that's when the problem happens: the old game.exe cannot set proper horizontal frequencies or smth like that and it causes eye fatigue. Watching the same gameplay for example on Youtube doesn't cause this - so the problem is with the game/hardware. Can that be AMD Catalyst?
It's like when you buy a new monitor and mess up the settings and while trying to adjust it you can feel your eyes hurt and even have a headache.

sounds like Refresh Rate in your laptop cant handle BK game resolutions. I would remove completely video drivers and Catalyst then clean install latest AMD driver (without catalyst first)and see if it helps.

Looks like I found a solution. Windowed mode! I didn't know old BK supports it THAT good! It is actually normal fullscreen (game.exe -windowed and config set to monitor resolution) but without that nasty "blink" when monitor changes videomode! So far my monitor resolution remains the same ingame and my eyes don't feel like they are full of sand! The only drawback is that menu/text 800*600 screens are left in the monitor upper-left corner... But I'm happy anyway One more question: I notice slowdown and screen tearing when moving cursor. I turned off Crossfire and my FPS limit is set to 5 is that OK? How to enable vsync or something that makes scrolling smoother?

I know not what course others may take. As for me, give me liberty or give me death.

I have always set my FPS to zero. Never had any problems with it that way.

Reinstalled BK again.
-windowed option works fine but I still have this problem.
This is probably a videocard issue (Radeon) or some problem with the game's engine. I tried all resolutions and it runs fine but this hidden bug makes it unplayable.

No, I'm using original drivers which came with my videocard
I don't normally update/reinstall anything if it works fine. Probably BK is just not compatible with these Radeon videocards or whatever.
I see only 2 options:
1) Get an nvidia card 2) Wait till someone remakes BK on a modern engine

Specs: *** Please don't say I should update video drivers or install crimson or whatever - I don't need this as other apps/games run fine. General rule is not to update as long as things work as they should. Speaking of settings available in the AMD control centre I think there may be a problem there. However, I tried to use default settings and ticking off some / all settings, the problem remains. The last time I tried my eyes literally started to hurt after like 10-20 minutes of play. Graphics and gameplay was smooth, but there was some kind of a hidden monitor frequency bug which caused this like I said before. Doesn't matter if it's native resolution or not, or even window -size. Other games with small units like Panzer Corps or COH - I can play for hours without any problems. Any suggestions how to get rid of control center forced options for BK would be nice. Please help me guys, I want to play my favourite game

So I solved the problem by switching to Blitzkrieg II - the game is very underrated and is actually better than the original BK in a lot of aspects (when patched to 1.5 and modded a bit).
Too bad we don't have any active BK2 community and mods in development for this amazing game.
