Is it possible to make a .PAK map for multiplayer which includes extra units/items for BK ? Has anyone tried this? I think that if it is possible, that both(all) players would need to pre-download the .pak and put it in their map folders, as the Gamespy matchmaker system only allows the exchange of the map files ( I think).

Here is an update on multiplayer .pak maps. I did an experiment, taking an existing multiplayer map- a "regular" one, that contains only original bk items, and made a .pak file with it. First, I tried to make it with the folder "multiplayer" only, placing it in the maps folder to create the "data/maps/multiplayer" path, and it did NOT work. I then made a .pak with the folders "maps/multiplayer" and placed it in in the "data" folder and SHAZAAAM! it works! On Gamespy, hosting and plaing functioned normally, even allowing others who did not have this map to download and play it. My next experiment is to make a multiplayer map with a new unit and pak it. I will need someone to download this .pak and put it in their data folder and go to gamespy to see if this will work- I will update this thread when I have that completed.

I took my "bigtime in the desert" multiplayer map and added a few "new" (not from original BK) units to it, created a .pak containing this map with the new units and modobjects file, placed it in my data folder and went to Gamespy. The map showed up in the maps list, and I hosted this map and launched it with only myself playing. IT WORKED! The new units were there and functioned normally! Like so many other things with BK, I had been told years ago that this was not possible, and it actually is. I now need to confirm that this will work with the other players. I am certain that on Gamespy, the map itself is available to other players via the matchmaker there, but the map would crash when launched because the other player(s) would have only the map and would not have the new units available in his data folder. The .pak with the new units and map- etc must be manually downloaded and placed in the data folder to function properly. I need someone familiar with playing on Gamespy to help confirm that this will work, please drop me a message here or by pm and I will send you the .pak. This opens a whole new world to multiplayer BK!
Edit to add: Here is the download for the .pak file which contains my "bigtime in the desert" map with a couple of new units added as an experiment. To use this, you must download the.pak and place it in your BK "data" folder, and the other(its a 2 player map) person must do this also! (test download removed- thank you GAGI!) pm me and I will get on gamespy and we can try this out!

WOO HOOO! SUCCESS! A big thank you to GAGI for downloading and testing the .pak map with me! I have been dreaming about making multiplayer maps with new units for years, and now it is a reality! I am off to "spruce up" some old maps that I have with some fresh units! Stay tuned BK online gamers for more news on this new development for the BK game!

Yesterday I thought I had monkeyed up something in my data folder, as the game kept crashing, and the culprit turned out to be MP maps with new units, after i had removed my master unit data pak from my data folder. So, if you are attempting to try this, you must keep these maps with new units, whether finished or in progress, in a separate folder. I am proposing a naming protocol for these maps, putting PAK at the beginning of the map name, so that people will not accidentally share the map from the Gamespy server and thus cause someone to have a crash if they have the map in their multiplayer folder, without having the needed new units. A person who has downloaded and placed the .pak in their data folder would not havr this problem as the map itself never gets copied into their maps folder, it stays in the .pak.
