I have this issue when loading the unit encyclopedia. The unit encyclopedia can be started from the Campaign menu. I get the message 'retrieving files' but the game crashes when the progress meter is at about 75 %. This happens every time. The installed game is not a "clean install" so the data folder it contains extra pak files.
Any idea anyone where to start looking ?

Thx Grot , that's the kind of answer I feared. Now I need to find a way to do this other then going through every single unit folder.

I know not what course others may take. As for me, give me liberty or give me death.

__________________ Quin', try to remove all your extra pak, then if it works without them, try to add them one by one, try to launch the library after adding one pak, of course Then when the pak which causes the issue is identified like Grot says it can be an .xml, or the textures files who serves for the library.

I will try this Scyooff . If crash can be caused by a missing texture then this would be the easiest thing to check out. Now about dentists, so Totally off topic: When you go to the dentist then you could try this; When the dentist bends over to look into your mouth then grab him firmly in his crotch. You now have his full attention. Then gently whisper in his ear' We're not going to hurt each other, are we?' Only works with male dentists of course

I will try with my dentist but he's a very strong guy I should explain myself better about the .dds, if the ones required for the library are missing i don't think it will crash but if one the .dds is not saved in the good format or not placed like it should it will lead to a crash. I remember there was a discussion between Doug and SquireJames (i think, not sure) in the past, where all is explained about the .dds for the library, i will try to find it. Or when SquireJames will see you're thread i think he will explain you in detail, i know he had worked on it.

I have narrowed down the problem to a couple of units by first removing all custom units from the objects.xml file (I took 2 backups of the original objects.xml file first). Then I checked if opening the library still makes the game crash which was not the case. Next I added the custom units back, about 20 at a time, to the objects.xml file. After I added a group of units I then checked if the game crashed. I still do not know what is causing the crash but at least I know at which units to look at. I’ll keep you updated.

before you check all those xmls better make a map If I had 30% of your skills and talent, 20% of your time available and worked half as fast as you Mat, I would make a map Unfortunately I have a lot of things to do right now and the sparse free time I have available I spend playing the "Achtung Panzer !", campaign. At the pace I play that means I'll be busy for quite a while. It's only when one has tried to create a map, mod or skin that one gets an idea of the time and effort it takes so I appreciate the work you modders put into creating content for our favourite game.

Thank you Squire James. I found the culprit unit but have not yet figured out why this particular unit causes the crash. Still need to look into this. I removed the unit from the objects.xml and the encyclopaedia is running fine now. I also found that some textures are missing (So it shows the chequered flag). Also some text characters do not display correctly. This is the case with German special characters like the ü. I have Still some work to do but I'm happy that the encyclopaedia is no longer crashing. If I find what caused the crash then I'll post it here.
