I noticed the polish officer has a sword.. It also has animations to use it but I haven't seen him using it in game. Is there a way to make this work?

Anyway, the 2nd option would be togivein aggresive state the range of attak1so officer would look like melee fighting

Hey ritzmod
The only animation that the Polish officer has that uses the sabre is POINT.
There are no melee attack or defense poses. Sprites 36 through 39 are used to simulate the officer pulling the sabre from the scabard, pointing and then returning it to the scabarb.
To build the necessry sprites for melee would take some time and would require around 8 sprites per 8 directions; 64. That is my best guess without really getting into it and cruching the data.
I can be done, and many of the sprite parts could be borrowed from existing sprites, mostly the lower areas of the legs. The problem will be the arm motion accompanied with the sabre extension up and down and crossways.
The other issue will be assigning the officer some mode of melee attack, that isn't supported in BK on a primary level.
Think of it like this--- bringing a knife to a gunfight. He would just be gunned down.
I have often thought that a melee type charge would be a good addition, like a bonzi charge, but if the unit has ammo, it is shooting.

I think that using a pistol after expending all of the PIAT ammo is a very nice idea.
You should use it SJ. It's very nice detail.

@sj: Have you done any research or tried to assign 3 weapons to infantry? I am curious about this but haven't tried it.
I might do some work on this. It might be possible to force a weapon change, somewhat like changing type of round for a weapon. If that is possible, then melee or bayonet charge might be possible. But I have never seen anything that looked encouraging along those lines.
