Well, I'm thinking in make a couple of maps about the retake of Rostov in 1943 but I dont have any clue about this battle. Someone can please give me a light on this subject? Thanks, BB

If it is of any help, I remember reading an account of the Germans taking the area in 1942. I recall that the terrain around there is rather flat - good ground for tank warfare. However, not far to the northwest of Rostov are a large number of mines with mineheads and associated industrial buildings - and probably housing for the workers to live in. The city itself and the industrial buildings were the main locations that the Soviets used to fight from.
I wonder if Google Earth or some such would help you at all.
