Ok, hope this works, trying imageshack for the first time: sorry, new link: img268.imageshack.us/img268/1694/tank1s.jpgWhat might this be? I admit, this is hard. It is also very very rare. But it was developed during ww2, so I think it might be fitting.

Interesting. The odd track/ wheeled design makes me wonder if it was some type of mine clearing vehicle? Or perhaps the dual drive was meant for rough terrain and city streets? However, the high velocity (37 mm?) main gun makes me wonder if it was meant as a tank killer?
P.S You need to post the "Image code" from imageshack/photobucket-etc to make a picture show in your posts. The one that looks like this: IMG]http://i877.photobucket.com/albums/ab338/JaggedSteel1/conainers.jpg[/IMG] - I removed the first bracket so the text would appear instead of the picture.

I guess the dual drive was meant for rough terrain and streets, although I am not sure. As far as I got it, you could switch between tracks and tires from inside. And it's not a 37mm, it's a 2-pounder. If it would have been tried to use it as a tank destroyer, I can't tell you. It wasn't intended to be one however. And thanks for the hint with the images, I will try now:

That's definitely a Carden-Lloyd track suspension. I worked on one of those. It's definitely a British tank design.
That's a concept that's as bad as the original BT tank series - taking off the tracks (or in this case putting on the wheels - so you can run on the roads. Don't try it under fire.

GAGI, you are right, it's the Schofield tank from New Zealand It was developed in 1940 for the same reason as the Sentinel tank was developed --> a possible japanese invasion. If it is a carden-lloyd track suspension, I don't know. On www.tankhistory.com they say it's from a universal carrier. GAGI, your turn

Looks like a Ruhrstahl (Kramer) X-4 , although I can only make out 2 fins on this picture, and the X-4 had 4 main fins.

Yes, after a little searching I found that to be the case, this photo shows one of the fins with the control wire bobbin on it pointed directly at the camera, and another of course pointed away, so it cannot be seen either.

I dug around a bit and found that same picture identified as an X-4 so I am reasonably certain I have the correct answer and will continue with the next question: What is this piece of equipment ? Edit: GAGI responded while I was writing this-LOL!
