Well, maybe it's a dumb question, but can anybody tell me what exactly happens to a unit when becomes a wreck? I mean in which way its parameters are changed. Thanks in advance.

The game engine handles the wrecked units differently. They cease to become a player or AI object. They become a neutral object and cannot be moved, retrieved, or resurrected. They are more like indestructable terrain objects. They cannot be attacked or effected.
The only reason they are still an object is due to the wreck timer, which eventually removes them. When they are wrecked, all script ids and unit parameters are stripped and they are assigned a generic object code; only for timer purposes.
Hope this helps...

Sometime back I tried to figure out a way to retrieve them, but couldn't break the code.
The only thing you could do is give it a script id, and try to perform a 'change player' and 'HP freeze' function to keep the HP from going to zero or below. Depending on what is shooting, one shot might be a kill. They do show up on the map if you do a save and convert to xml... but you must know the exact location since it will not have the same name from the database.
