Guys, Openspy works for *ALL* games that use GameSpy because in reality Openspy it's a Gamespy master server emulator. If you are not sure that this will last forever, you can download the source code here: github.com/sfcspanky/Openspy-Core and create a BK Master Server emulator. Fork with bugs fixed here: github.com/Masaq-/Openspy-Core

I for one do not like the idea of an "installer". Some people might find it useful, BUT, there are lots more who will NOT run an .exe from a dubious source (like a game modder). I am one of those people. There is also the issue of installers failing because a game install is not in the place where the installer thinks it should be. I do think a pictorial how-to of where to place the patch is in order though, especially since the vast majority of BK Multiplayers do not have the foggiest idea of their folder structure and such. Also: You can put the permission issue to bed permanently, the people running it have helped get BK operating on Openspy. Fair enough... I will leave you gentlemen to your work. Again... Good find! -iLeeT_PeeP

I am not "anti-installer" for BK mods and other data, per say, but I think the utility of them is hugely over-estimated and based on faulty reasoning.
I see it this way:
If a person knows where his BK folders are then there is no need for an installer, it is just a nuisance.
If a person does not know where his BK folders are then there is a high degree of probability that he will fail to get anything installed via the installer. This is because if the person has his game installed in even a slightly different location (or has Anthology instead of BK when the installer is looking for old BK or vice-versa) from that which is the default location chosen in the installer then he does not know where to tell it to install. Fail. Wasted download and disgruntled BKr. Then he might start monkeying around blindly and mess up his BK install and/or his entire PC. I know this because I was this guy for a long time before I got into the modding of games myself and I know that the vast majority of those who use mods and such are pretty much in that category still. In my opinion a pictorial how-to showing exactly how to find your BK folders and clearly showing where the new data for the game is to be put is 1,000 times more useful than making an installer.
And then there is the .exe security issue. I know you were one of the first BK modders ,Peep, but I am not sure if you are aware of the rash of Malware in BK mods with installers that was going around about 5-6 years ago. I remember it real well because I was the victim of a nasty thing that F-d up my entire PC that came from a BK mod in an installer. I can't remember if the verdict on that is whether someone had injected the malware into the installer code or had added the bad stuff to the data that is installed, or both. At any rate there were fair amount of people who were affected by this , and many probably do not even know where the nasty virus they got right after they used an installer came from.

I just noticed your reply on the openspy page, that game list is pretty outdated and to be honest, I don't know how many games and on which consoles run with openspy, all I know is that it's for ps2 AND pc purposes. it was originally made for tony hawk games really, but the guy who created the thing (chc) decided to jump off the ship so now we have this guy named masaq fixing bugs on github while we "try" to install them properly. if you guys have any games that run on gamespy pc/ps2 try using them with wireshark packet recording to see if we can get stuff to work, My goal is to get openspy to be stable enough and be able to run most games, but it's hard to get it working when it's so buggy. I'm currently updating the website for the first time in over a year so that should fix a few issues with people commenting, if you have any trouble just hit me up on skype/steam @ ngfrost or frostyhawkng on twitter, alternatively the openspy facebook page since I'm a facebook addict www.facebook.com/openspy

Great news and good job for this patch mortbertjh. Does this affect the stability in Multiplayer Game. Is it better or less ? Personnally, we use direct ip with some player that I fight, but it's probably a good idea.
PS. And thank you Frosty.

OK... I going to request that those of you with excellent MP-Server skills to contact frostyhawk directly so he can get you to the people on his side to resolve any issues encountered.
Coordinate your efforts guys.
For the moment, this seems like the best option for the BK MP future.
This is going to require some work within our community if we are going to continue BK MP. JaggedSteel has requested some of you to go there so he can begin accessing communication issues.

I am on the Openspy BK server right now, hanging in the chat. I will be around now and then for the rest of today, so anyone who has any interest in preserving the Multiplayer contingent for BK please install the patch mortbert made and drop by and say hi to confirm that everything is working, at least on a basic level. At some point today I could play a game, so if we are both in the room at the same time we can have a quick battle to confirm that everything is working the way it should. As far as tech help goes, I hope there are some members here or in the multiplayer crowd that can lend some support to this. All of you that have read my posts of late trying to resolve a router related Multiplayer hosting issue know my level of knowledge when it comes to network and internet related things , so I am not much help on that accord. P.S: When you go to the chat room you will see "UrOnOpenspy" in the lobby. That is me.

Update: I am still in the lobby of Openspy and the very first person , other than myself on my laptop, has entered the room, left a test message and left. The name was "Aosoth", I have no idea who this was , but now my fears that somehow my test with myself on two pc's was just some sort of fluke have been alleviated. I will make a detailed guide about not only where to put the patch mortbert made (for all the Multiplayer only guys ), but also an explanation about how BK muiltiplayer works (for all of the singleplayer mission only guys ). In a nutshell what you need to do is follow the instructions in the read-me of the patch mortbert made (while bk is closed) and then fire up BK, go to Multiplayer, and then select Gamespy. Without the patch you will go to the Gamespy server, with the patch you go to the Openspy server. It is that simple.

I ran the installer and it changed the language to German on the game.exe. Anyone else see this?
Also, I need the IP.

Wow, that did not happen to me, MP. I have installed this twice, once on my W7 gaming PC and once on my old XP laptop, and both times it left the .exe in English. I have also ran the revert to orgininal and gone back and forth a few times and did not notice anything unusual. Hopefully this is a fluke of some sort.
P.S: Both of these installs are Anthology, and neither of them is in the default install location. The install on my W7 machine is a copy/paste from my old XP machine to avoid the W7 install issues.
P.S. P.S.: You do not need any IP # if you use the patch, it is changing the IP that is called by the game that usually connects to Gamespy to the new one that connects you with Openspy. I manually changed my system DNS to the Openspy server IP #s yesterday the first time I tried Openspy, and then mortbert had this patch that changes the call within the game so I have not done that since.

Here is a shot of the very first visitor to the Openspy server while I have been logged in, other than myself on another computer. Still have no idea who Aosoth is, but he left a test message. I am logged in as UrOnOpenspy, to try and let folks know they have reached the right place. If nobody told you, there is no way to know if you are in the Gamepsy lobby or the Openspy lobby, they are identical. I also have no idea why little clips are being blown up so large when I am posting them here from PB. This just started recently.
