I think we have located the problem now, MP. The Gamespy Multiplayer is for Blitzkrieg only. BH/RT or any other iteration of the game will not work on the Gamespy Blitzkrieg server. Who would have thought that there was an aspect of BK that I (or anybody, really) knew more about that you, LOL!
The game itself is also somewhat touchy as to what .paks you have sitting in your folder, too. There are resource checks to keep people from inserting special weapons .xmls for their side and other cheats like that when Multiplayer runs. Skin .paks do not seem to cause any issues.

@major Pain : I play with Blitzkrieg (first name) is not installed and my Blitzkrieg Anthology for the moment, but it seems to me that GameSpy was accessible. I'll try this weekend to see that.
Note that it may be possible to add Gamespy through menus, right? A bit like the patch "Multiplayer 1.5" for Mission Kursk.

Well I'll be damned... it never occurred to me you guys were using vanilla BK. That answers alot of the questions. But my work is not yet done.... check this out... and the ReadMe for Patch 1.3 From what I am quickly learning... BH and RT and many later releases did not have Multiplayer support. Some patches add the Multiplayer but not gamespy. But I really think this can be solved where RT can be modified to support Openspy with a new button. That is my goal... so anyone wishing to assist... let me know.

Mogwaii:
I think the first step is locating the menu source files and then try to add the menu button and function.

Another UPDATE: The 1.3 Patch is already included in Anthology... The Anthology Rolling Thunder version is 1.2. They have the same exact build date and sizes. So perhaps we are getting closer to solving this... The answer might lay in Vanilla.

I think your idea to implement RT multiplayer is a worthy project, MP, but just to clear the waters for anybody who is here to get this patch made by mortbertjh that allows them to continue to play Blitzkrieg online, the issue that you experienced was due to trying to install the patch in Rolling Thunder, when it is meant for Blitzkrieg.
For those of you who are here to get the patch to replace Blitzkrieg Gamespy with Openspy, it appears that so far there actually have not been any glitches related to the function of the patch created by mortbertjh, so please proceed with trying it out, and I will see you on Openspy!
Remember that you can revert back to Gamespy with this patch, so please give it a try sooner rather than later so we can work out any issues that may arise before the Gamespy shutoff.

Doh! Stupid double post when I thought I was editing... I would like to add that the lesson learned here is that this patch is for Blitzkrieg only and that you must make sure you are putting the patch in your Blitzkrieg/run folder and not any other such as RT/BH .

So, are you trying to add Gamespy option to Rolling Thunder? i'll see what i can do Something to keep in mind is that if you enable Rolling thunder to operate on the Blitzkrieg Openspy server through the Gamespy option that it will most liekly cause crashes due to the system thinking both games are the same when they are not. This is similar to the GZM on Gamespy issue, where anyone hosting GZM must quarantine themselves from those playing with regular Blitzkrieg installs, because if the two meet in a host room there is an instant crash, due to GZM posing as Blitzkrieg, rather than being a mod, which the Gamepsy system is real good at sorting out. My best suggestion is to either go for IP connectivity for multiplayer RT, make it into a mod for BK, or talk to the Openspy people and see if there would be a way to enter a new game into the system. I would hate to see the Blitzkrieg Multiplayer waters get further muddied by introducing something that is going to cause technical issues.

So, are you trying to add Gamespy option to Rolling Thunder? i'll see what i can do That was my original purpose... but I had missed the fact that you guys were using Vanilla. I still think RT and BH will work, and I don't know why NIVAL didn't do it. It just isn't a big jump to RT. It might open some doors. @js>>> Are you in OpenSpy?

JS I think you are correct... RT and any other would have to be Identified as such...
Look closely at the upper left. It is possible to change the buttons and titles. I'm looking for the GameSpy graphic in the upper right. may as well change that one as well...

JS I think you are correct... RT and any other would have to be Identified as such... And we must to ask : is there are some guys who play multiplayer game around with BH, RT, BH-RT ? It is possible to change the buttons and titles. I'm looking for the GameSpy graphic in the upper right. may as well change that one as well... Which could be very usefull to don't confused Gamespy with Openspy...

Thats what I was gonna do MP... But I was told that im just a cheap, backstabbing hacker that puts viruses in the BK software I release... Oh well... I guess it was for a reason. Good luck on the project gentlemen... This should shine some light on BK multiplayer if you can get it going and properly distributed... Good games all! -iLeeT_PeeP

But I was told that im just a cheap, backstabbing hacker that puts viruses in the BK software I release... I think that's a tad strong Leet. Jagged was only saying he had a natural distrust of installers due to issues he (and countless others, myself included) have experienced over the years with them. Yeh... Maybe yer right SJ. Was just offering to legitimately help. Im sure others will step in and do the work... Good games! -iLeeT_PeeP

Just a quick jump in for a minute before I go off-shift and home for two days.
Lee- I'm sorry that I was working on the same thing as you... I had no idea. Will you continue to work on this? The buttons can be changed. I'm still looking for the GameSpy graphic. You can certainly further the cause with your talents.
I should mention that we are modifying a layer of BK that may have some issues. But since GameSpy is going out of business, and the game is no longer supported by NIVAL, I would be very surprised if there was any fallout.
NIVAL gave license to make changes. So in that spirit, the button files are also Open Architecture and moddable. The graphic might be something different. However since the community will likely migrate to OpenSpy... it is a new server and new platform. GameSpy is not only abandoning Blitzkrieg, but many other game platforms... so I compare it to throwing in the towel and leaving us scrambling for a new MP home.
Having said that, Nival owns the interface and menu screens. But we have seen those even replaced and updated over the years. So I see no difference here. It is only a graphic, just like tanks and planes.
The interface modules can also be changed, but it will take some testing. I plan to work on this because I don't like the MP Chat. I use a widescreen monitor that makes fonts look too large. So I'm thinking we might scale those down a bit and increase the number of characters that can be typed. I located the stuff that handles that, but not yet studied it to do anything. If someone wants to give it a try... don't let me stand in your way. This is a colossal situation so many of us will have to help solve it.
I was in the MP earlier and my first move in the map crashed the game... I'm not sure if it was me (I'm a novice at MP), or the server... or just something that happened. But chat does work and linking seems pretty good. I hope that some of you can find you way there and give it a try over the weekend. We need to test this out and resolve anything that we can.
I'll try to check in later but I'm going to be tough to get for two days.
