There's 2 Stalingrad movies nowadays... the one posted here is my absolute favorite. It really showed the humanity of soldiers on both sides, but at the same time, it shows perfectly the stupidity and insanity of that war. Tragic until the end. This should be a must see for educational purposes.

I must say that nobody should feel weird alongside other people of other nationalities, I think that stage of history is overcome, because people today have nothing to do with what happened.

But if there is something to remember the war in the past is to be learned from that mistake.

today there're lot of americans convinced yet the japanese deserved the holocaust of hiroshima an nagasaki. i don't know if an american delegation have recently met the japanese rapresentation during the related cerimonies on 9 august, because since few years ago there wasn't.
but to commemorate other, it must stop the world.

germans of ww2 are always represented yet as the worst bloodthirsty people, always in search of new slaves and deads ... a similar denigration propaganda was attribuited to the japanese during ww2 and it persisted in america towards the asian races for all 60s and 70s, time of the korean and vietnam wars.
curious, instead, as the enemies of today, victims of the gooders propaganda are the soldiers of syria, russia, .. and no the militants of isis or other foundamentalist organizations. mussolini called the allies as traitors of western civilization ... and maybe he has always had reason, and he often said (cit.) there isn't worst enemy of the peace of who make as job/profession the peacifist or, substantially, the peace-monger.

here in italy, national history is an untouchable tabu, expecially the period from the end of ww1 and the end of ww2. underwoods powers conditionated a lot the culture and the knowledge of the people, as everywhere, right, but here you can't discuss of that historical period, there are only concepts which must be shared and absolutly to don't be discussed, a bit like the ortodossian of the religion.
@wittmann i know, in spain, franco made-tried a reunion of all spanish, overcoming the political- territorial differences, but then .. much then .. you know .. terrible atrocities and summary killings in the immediatly post civil war years was made by the winners.

excuse me and i hope to don't have touched, also here, some taboo .. i wanted just said, there can't be overcome if the facts continue to be expressed under censorship, propaganda, stiffening of culture and consciousness, ... i know, who win write the history, like ancient romans said, but now we don't live in a wonderful multi cultural world where everybody are respected and we could know several facets of all the things ? ... overcoming the differences ? ...

I for the part that touches me as Spanish, I can only say that Franco was a dictator and as such a murderer who forced a country at its discretion, and although some people would like to go back to that dark period in Spain, currently is impossible, since a large majority of young Spaniards, we have learned from that particular mistake by our history, because after the dictator's death, the Spanish we democratize and became clear with frustrated result with the "coup of State 23 February 1981 in Spain ".

It is true that the wars in most situations sometimes exploited by some disarmed by the extreme situation of the population.

During the dark period of the Spanish civil war, entire families were facing and fighting brothers against brothers of one family on different sides.

This was joined by the cruelty with which each side revenge for his prisoners was developed, which was the root for more rage.

When the faction revolted under General Franco and the exceeded help advanced weaponry by Hitler's Germany and Italy Mousolini, beat and found a submissive country to its power, which made sure that no he snatched his new status, for it imprisoned, tortured and shot all contrary to their ideology.

That is why today, Spain always leads with other countries offering help with the UN, for those countries that are mired in the disaster, to prevent others from future dictators with bad intentions from taking over the population, and therefore is a great work that you play the many people with your support of all our countries.

And finally, my opinion if someday Spain relapse into the same error of the past, it is clear that my belief in democracy, it would be very difficult for me to be surrounded by so much evil, so my existence on this planet would simple reduced to ashes.

I will not now discover the different countries faced by a war, in which some were democratic their leaders elected by their people and are defended by aggression, and quite another to that of countries with a dictator like regressors president against the will of the people.

It is also true that in WWII, the Allies counted with the help of a criminal dictator like Stalin, Winston Churchill but the poor man was desperate, but the story put in place at present Soviet dictator and this was demonstrated for the past leaders of Russia today, apologizing for the victims of war that could cause in that period of WWII.

For me as an example of peace person was Mikhail Gorbachev, a person recognized outside your country.

Other countries also apologized, long after this period. Germany, Japan and others.

It would be good that the US did the same at Vietnam.

By the way, this thread is the toys that were in the past.

In Spain on January 6, is the Day of the three kings, a day very magical for many children who receive their new toys now.

In Spain there are campaigns in the Spanish contribute to get toys for all the poor children of our country, and popular phrase is: "A toy, a child," that if it is wonderful to organize, and not think of a new war. That is the philosophy of a country and of a population with healthy mindset.
