As many of you know, I'm moaning and groaning because Vista will not let me run Blitzkrieg properly. If it won't let me run BK, what's the point in it? (Okay, at least I can get onto BlitzSrbija.)
I have picked up a used P-4 2.4 mHz computer for almost nothing. It seems to run all right, but it won't run Blitzkrieg! (Trust me, it is not connected to my other computer, so it cannot be infected by Vista.)
Blitzkrieg starts and runs okay until you try to run any mission or chapter - the in-game campaigns or custom missions, it doesn't matter. As the campaign/chapter/mission starts to run, I get this series of flash boards, and then the game aborts:The Map Editor automatically aborts as soon as you run it.
This is the last version of Blitzkrieg, so all the updates are automatically loaded with it and it does not require the CD to run (although I have left CD2 in the drive anyway.) I have checked to see if there is anything missing. I have reloaded BK several times. I have reloaded the XP OS and then Blitzkrieg twice. I have tried BK in another partition. I have tried BK on another HD. I always get the same error messages.
Does anyone know what this means? Has anyone had the same problem? (This also happens with Rolling Thunder.)
Any other game I care to put on this computer runs just fine, so I don't think it's the computer. What am I missing?

Maybe your other parts don't fit.
A friend of mine could run BK until he bought some exotic RAMs, an exotic graphic board and other stuff, even if the cpu was the same as before (and before it was running on the machine). It was even Vista before and now it's Windows7 and it simply does not work.
I know that this answer is unsatisfactory. But if you have worked a lot on the parts of the computer, this might be the reason.

Other than adding an extra larger HD and swapping a DVD player/writer for a CD player/writer I have made no changes to the computer.
Funny the exact same install will run on Vista (sort of) but not on XP.

Hmm, HD and DVD player/writer should not be a problem...
Did you install all Service Packs for XP? And if you did, did you install first the SPs or BK?

XP, SP-2, SP-3 and BK in that order with nothing in between. I have SP-2 and SP-3 on CD's.

Maybe you should try to install first bk and then the service packs. I had a similar problem with a school project when the thing I was working on simply didn't work if did all updates first. Just when I did all without updating first it worked (sounds weird, does it?).

Is the P4 dual core or single core, and are you trying to use the dual core patch? I have a quad core and do not use the dual core patch and everything runs fine on XP.
The problem might be in the version of Game.exe and how it loads the files. Data file might be corrupted compared to the objects.xml.
If it loads one file out of order, you will see these splash boards, (tracked back to the objects.xml). You might have to remove the .pak file ons until you see which one is causing the issue.
Good luck.

Unless I'm seriously mistaken, P-4's were all single core units.
Okay, I'll try loading things in a different order, and removing and replacing the BK updates as well. At this point, I'll try anything.
I'm also wondering if there is a recent update to XP that I can't upload - since I'm not connected to the internet.

Okay, I cleaned out the hard drive (just after I'd loaded everything from all my BK backups) and reloaded XP, then BK. Still the same errors. Loaded SP-2. Still the same. Loaded SP-3. Same.
Frustration.

May sound like a stupid question, but what graphics card do you have in your new rig? and are the drivers up to date? I have an old PCI graphics card on the computer and, no, the drivers are not up to date. It's not connected to the internet, so I can't update them that way. I blew my income tax refund on the computer, and don't have any more to spend on it right now.

PCs having P4 could have some problem if your model is dated before the launch of BK (2003). P4 was launched in the year 2000. Could be a silly question, but did you check if your PC has minimum requirements?
That wasn't a silly question, it was a stupid question. You need just a P2 to run BK. As kaoz said, could be a memory problem but not a video memory one. If you have two blocks of system memory then you could try to remove one of them and then try to run the game.

not sure anymore of what i said either - might be nothing due to PC or xp, but just BK - it's odd.
maybe try running some other, heavier program to check the PC hardware. if that's all ok, i'd focus on BK itself.
are you sure you aren't running any missions/chapters that use mod units of which units might have been replaced/edited or missing? is this happening to the original BK chapters as well?

Sounds like the graphics Louis. I seriously doubt its up to running BK. Yeah, I'm starting to get that impression. I have two more graphics cards around here. Too bad I can't find them.

I have a new computer running Windows 7 64 bit. I tried installing BK and it installed ok. It doesn't run. The BK icon comes on the screen and disappears and the game does not start. Help anyone Thanks
