SU_T34-76_'41e Winter skin (sort of) This is my second attempt to skin a unit. I wanted to try something different by creating a weathered Winter scheme. The skin is based upon a model by MP and a Summer Skin by Gagarin. I left out the isigna because this could always be added later.

Attempt # 3: Winterskin for the T-34/85 by Major Pain & Kevin In making this skin I tried some new techniques that are available in the GIMP, at least there new to me . In the previous attemps I only use a single layer and spraypainted the Winter skin as I would do on an actual (plastic) model. For this skin I used layers to preserve the detail, create depth in the model and still give it a weathered look. I chose to not to add too much dirt and/or mud on the tracks. More detail could be added but this will hardly be noticable in the game model. Again I used Gagarin's terrific Summer skin as a guide.

"Attempt # 3: Winterskin for Major Pain's T-34/85 "
Quintaxel, ate to be precise, the authors - Major Pain, Kevin.
Kevin declined to make the following T 34-85, and when will resume work on this series Major Pain unknown. So it's still the only accurate working model of the completed T 34-85.
Excellent winter skin, waiting for release.

Thanks for pointing this out to me Gagarin. I will correct it. For the release I still have to create the icon.dds files, a death skin and winter texture for the soldiers. I still try to find a technique to make a good death skin for a Winter model. This will be something for the coming days.

Thank you for the compliment but honestly, these are the first skins I ever made. To be a 100% correct I once tried to make a skin for MP's BMW-75 . That didn't work out too well I used Paint.net then. I had no real interest in making skins but I do like to try things out so I downloaded GIMP and started playing arround. I do have some experience with plastic modelling and airbrushing so mabe this helps. I'm sure that the real artists of this forum and people who know how to work with GIMP would frown when they see me making these skins . I'm afraid I still have a lot to learn.

They look great on the map and that's what counts.
A red star in place of those dark patches on the sides of the turret would be nice.
Your experience with modelling is paying off.
Ciao, John

Thanks John. I have a look at the red star. I did not want to make it too bright but you're right, now they look a bit like dark patches.

Only without the white border on the star.
This fringing is very, very rarely applied to military ground vehicles. And only at the end of the war. But it is very popular in the vehicles serving in parades.
