Tried skinning once, and I sucked so badly I almost gouged my own eyes out. Good thing you guys got this subject more than covered. Great stuff there. Always good to have variety in awesomeness.

Attempt # 4: Major Pain's Tiger 2 With Krupp turret This is my first Summer skin and also the first skin I made starting from MP’s factory skin. Because I do not know much about graphical programs I had to a fall back on my modeling experience (I mean making military models guys ) so I used different layers for shadow, dust and mud, insignia, gear and highlights. I wanted to give as much detail as possible without having these annoying black lines on the model. And my firts death skin Next I'll try a winter skin for the same model. most impressive work Quin.. in Witt's area for sure bravo style and class

I think you have a lot of talent! Just started, and a great result in Texturing!I like the high level of detail, and the choise of coloring.. I could learn a few things from you! What paint program do you use?

Thanks for the postive feedback guys. Much appreciated. Scyooff: I will be glad to post the skin. I just need to make some corrections to the death skin. @esp-Wittmann: Thanks for the link to the camo schemes. Maybe Ill try the tropical skin you suggested. In fact the idea of the method I use is to create a set of layers that can be used with any camouflage scheme. So ones the basic layers are created you could easily create different skins. The death skin is created in the same way. The "look and feel" of the models would be consistend in style and quality. At least this is the idea. vonosten: Thanks for the compliment. I just use Gimp and basic techniques. (Airbrush, bristles, layers and colour hue,..) In my experience the detail is a matter of finding a balance through trial and error. I also like to work with highlights and shadows to give depth to the models because this is how I work with physical models. I added the flag to test the technique of adding shadows. Again, the technique I use may sound a bit unorthadox to real skinners who know how to work with graphical programs. Now, if you and/or Wittmann feel like it then I would like to do a little test. Maybe you guys could also make a camo scheme for the Tiger 2 with Krupp turret (so the model I skinned). I would like to see the result if we combine your camo scheme with the layers I made. So I would need just the camo scheme a layer. The camo layer should not be merged with the basic layer (this is the factory skin that comes with MP's models).

I have no schemes available. I make each from scratch, I use no layers, and I use Gimp as well. But you can take one of the textures from a TigerII, I textured before; I don't mind. May I give one suggestion? Maybe take some more attention on the tracks they could use some 'mud' colour..

OK, thanks for the suggestion VO. Mud and snow on tracks is still something that I need to work on. On the one hand the tracks need to be muddy to appear realistic but on the other hand I do not want to loose too much detail.

Take a look at the last units I made today, I replaced the tracks texture, by a more detailed ones, then you must be able to make them muddy without losing too much detail.

I'll show you how I made these last few skins. Remember that using the technique of overlapping layers, success is assured and you are experiencing with great success. It is clear that while the program we use can practice using layers. Remember that you can also use real images to create new layers, so you get more realism. By the way, if you can work a 1024x1024 resolution then when finished you can pass the skin to 512x512. To avoid the staggering effect of the image in the game, you can blur the finished picture, that if the program you use allows. Also say that, here are many valid people whom can you keep learning, because in each variety can choose the best approach. A good example is the work gagarin in works very well and his work has great quality, I hope it will be a good reference for you. A hug my friend.

Thanks Wittman, I somehow like winterskins that are not so snow white but have a rather weathered look because I can imagine that in reality the white wash used to paint the tanks was of poor quality and wore of easily. The next challenge will be a North-Africa camo scheme. First I need to make the 2w_h.dds skin. In skinning the most difficult thing for me is to find out where the different elements of the skin come together on the model, like the turret on the hull of the tank or the position of hatches. A hug to you too friend,
